Help! Brake light issues!

Okay, so when I changed my oil I noticed that my brake light was out. I replaced the bulb, and the tail light is working.. but brake light still is doing nothing. This is the passenger side on an 07 liftback.

Thoughts? Think maybe I have a short or something?

Not a short unless it's blowing fuses. More likely to be a loose ground wire somewhere.

Any ideas where I should begin my search? Not very car literate so looking for as much info as possible, haha.

The grounding is usually close by. Look for a wire out of the bulb socket that attaches to the chassis.

just as a side note, i would be pretty sure that the ground is fine, as the tail light side is working... my suggestion is to check to see if there is a short in the wire from the bulb to the last splice in the brake light circuit, or to make absolutely sure on the light bulb being correct...

Check the brake fuse located under the dash. Do you have and auto or manual?

cannot be fuse if it is only one bulb... only circuit that has individual fuses like you are thinking is the headlights so that you can limp home with one light to see by at night...

the brake lights have their own fuse and another one for the illumination. My brake lights didn't work but everything else did. I replaced the brake fuse and it fixed the problem. I also could not shift out of park until the fuse was replaced. I missed the part about just the passenger side

Is your bulb dual filament?

Great safety feature. All too many morons on the roads with no brake lights. I guess they don't have $5 and 5 minutes install time to save themselves from a wipelash.

Happened to me only after a couple of weeks of buying my car. I was trippin out cause I thought it was something worse. The dealership said "they just changed a fuse", but didnt say which one and as to why I couldnt shift out of park. I figured it was probably a safety issue.

anyways...yeah, so check your fuses man @_@

Haha, well when I move around the wire connected to the tail light bulb it turns the light off and on. So I think it's something to do with the wires? The brake light and tail light use the same bulb, and the tail light works, but not the brake light. The other two brake lights work.

okay well, you found where the system is shorted, and that would be a relatively simply fix... however, take it to a shop of some sort because said shop will warranty their work, FTW

It's the 10A fuse labeled STOP on the bottom of the under dash fuse panel.
