Yaris 2007 vs 2008 vs 2011 MPG?

Hi I recently change my job with new one and the new one is much far away, so i'm looking to buy a Yaris hatchback with manual transmission, but wen I checked online the MPG for 2007 is 34 city and 40 highway, the 2008 model 29 city and 36 highway and for 2011 is the same as 2008!

Is it really 2007 better on gas from the later models?

I have good deal for 2011, but if somebody can tell me what mpg to expect from it will be more easy to me to make a decision?

Thank you in advance and and excuse me for my crappy English :P

Best!

Your English is great! I don't think there were any differences between those years, most likely it's just a difference in the math used to calculate those numbers.

I have a 2011 hatchback with manual transmission.

I always get about 35~36 MPG. Every tank is about 35~36MPG. Long term is about 35~36MPG.

I drive probably 80%~85% freeway.

My A/C is always on because I leave the vent in the Recirculate position; even when it is cold, I just turn up the temperature dial with the A/C on. I keep my tires at about 30~32PSI. I usually drive about 70~75MPH on the freeways, when traffic permits, which is about 80% of my daily commute which is 35miles, one-way.

they are the same. the method for calculating EPA rating changed for 2008

the 2007 was rated 34/40, but under the revised method the rating is 29/36, which is the rating given to the 2008-2011 models

the 3rd gen yaris actually did go up a bit to 30/37 due mainly to a more aerodynamic body (I think).

so, in real life, the 2012-2015 yaris is rated higher than the 2007-2011 yaris.

I have 2014 SE automatic. Just shy of 33mpg since new with 50% city/ 50% highway driving. That's pen and paper calculation, car computer always reads about 1-2 mpg higher.

That is how it should be! I don't believe on some "method calculation" or stupid ECU readings, that why I asked you guys, there nothing better that the real world experience! Unfortunately the answer come too late I already get the car.
37 MPG is not something impressive anymore, a lot of cars have same or even better MPG and some of them are even normal size cars. Probably was better to get Fit or Matrix or something equivalent. The Yaris is very noisy car inside and I love to drive manual and I have a lot of experience with manual cars, but the first gear of this car is just tragic.

Best!

the matrix and fit are plenty noisy....especially the manual fit. I promise you the manual fit is as noisy or more so than the yaris, and the highway rpm's are higher than they yaris. the manual yaris also has a higher epa rating than the manual fit.

sure there are cars rated higher, but Toyota and Honda vehicles, for whatever reason, have always (for me, anyway) gotten better real world mpgs than higher rated cars from other automakers. looking at fuelly or fueleconomy.gov, the yaris gets as good or better real world mileage as the 40mpg rated cars, some of which really struggle to get anywhere near that in the real world.

Hi,

To Everyone! My MPG result is for 10.077 Gallons of the cheapest Gas 366 miles. With normal driving, no pushing myself to keep good fuel economy. 70% City and the rest Highway. For me this topic is closed, there is nothing more to be added.

P.S. If somebody knows working method or topic of how to "damping the noise in yaris " will be great to share it with me and the others. :D

Best to all!

Hello all!

I've got a 2008 3 Door 5 speed manual yaris with as few extras as possible. On average I get around 400+ miles from 10.5 gallons of gas. I've got a Scangauge2 installed semi-permanently to monitor and track my driving. I use it as my Tac as well since my car doesn't have one. I've found that by finding my engine's "sweet spot" I've been able to increase my mileage by 5-10mpg! seriously. 2400 rpm seems to be the sweet spot.

Hi Pesho,
My 2008 Yaris hatchback gets 46-48 mpg, a little less then when it was new.

According to my ECU, my 2015 Manual SE has been doing 40.1 MPG average since I stopped using my A/C this fall/winter. Before that, it was reading 38.2 MPG average weekly (with A/C always on). "Real-world" MPG is probably 2-3 less than what the ECU indicates. I'm happy with both the MPG and the daily driving experience of my Yaris. It's a fun, snazzy little car (at least in the SE incarnation), in my opinion, and the best overall car in its price-class.

I wish that I had the opportunity to experience the pre-2015 Yaris clutch, as mine shifts a well (or better) as any Honda/Acura manual that I have ever driven in the past (all my previous cars over the last 35 years). I guess it was a good thing that I waited for the 2015 refresh, and the newer Toyota clutch implementation in the Yaris. All the bad press about the Yaris manual shifting dynamics almost drove me to purchase an automatic, for the first time ever. This will be my last manual though, since I am not getting any younger.

Wow. I remember when this forum was full of hypermilers and the average I remember those guys getting was around 42 mpg, give or a take a mile or two. Your 46-48 is impressive. I remember the 50 mpg tank was like the holy grail for those guys.

I drive a 2007 hatch and my last fill-up was 10.4 gallons on 335 miles for 32.2 mpg. Considering I don't have lightweight wheels, cruise at 75-80 mph on the freeway and don't granny drive in the city, I'm okay with that.

It beats the 19 mpg my dad's Chrysler Town & Country gets.

My 1.3 does 52.8 mpg with average speed of 60 mph using cruise control. I did a trip 140 miles with set up speed 60 mph and the consumption was 63.2 mpg.

i average about 38mpg in my 07 manual 4 door hatch i drive mostly highway. my best to date was on a trip from waterton lakes provincial park alberta to Kelowna BC. 930km trip used 41 liters, in MPG that works out to be 53.3 mpg. seems strange because it was through the mountains and i was using a/c the whole time, but the speed limits on the highways i was on were 90km/h.
