Question instrument cluster-TACH "S" model

A humorous situation exists IMO regarding the Instrument cluster on the 2009 models that happens when marketing, not engineering drives product- a noted Toyota foible.

You can only get a tachometer in your OEM instrument cluster (persumably because it's the better grade car) on the S model.

The problem is that the S model now only is available (per the Toyota website) on the 5 door hatchback which itself only comes with an automatic.

Sooooooooooo........if you have a manual transmission - where you could use the tach- you can't get a tach- but if you spring for the S model- you get a tach - which is essentially useless- because it only comes with an automatic transmission!

I discovered this silly situation when I attempted to buy the cluster from the 2009 S from the dealer and discovered the cluster would only be compatible with an automatic transmission Yaris!

Great judgement marketing department!!!!!!!!!

Hey - you're right. Just checked the Toyota site and you can't configure a 3dr "S" MT. Dropped? I love my car even more now.

If I can ask, where did you find the 09 "S" cluster, how much did you pay, and how do you get the mileage programmed?

Be sure to save your paperwork. If you ever get accused of odometer fraud you can use your receipts to back up your word.

$230 actually doesn't sound so bad. Any chance you have the part number so I can try to find one for myself? Also: 1) Does this work with the MT. 2) Does it have the 2 indicators for cruise control and the one for fog lights?

here is what ive found. all 09s are abs. both auto and manual share the same cluster. they have all the indicators. there are only 2 part numbers for clusters, the regular one and the sports "S" one. the part number is on the box at home but the guy looked it up and said its the sports cluster. i also went through my work and we have a wholesale account with my local toyota so your price may vary.

I have the Scangauge II and an aftermarket tach, but I'd much rather have an OEM cluster with the tach... much neater looking
