Transmission problems ???:(

Hi, So for a while now, my yaris hatchback 07, has started grinding when shifting from second to third in high rpms... it always has been a little hard to shift to third but never really grinded.... i've talked to a mechanic and he was saying it could be one of my synchros thats going, but then i talked to another one, which i've always trusted more and never heard one bad thing about him, and he is saying it could be my slave cylinder ... has anyone else ever gotten that problem ? i was looking online and apperently it has been a defect on the civics also

The slave cylinder can be easily diagnosed by watching it activate the fork while pressing the clutch pedal. If it doesn't move fully then it could be the slave cylinder or air in the system. If it does move all the way, then you are likely looking at a synchro issue.

Been trying to look at it for a while and nothing seems wrong with the slave cylinder , my clutch does grab super close to the top and also i have realised that it shutters when it's warm out ?

I had similar issues as part of my firat transmission woes. I haven't been able to disassemble it yet to see what could have occurred however. Do you know if a transmission flush and refill have been peformed? If you decide to do a flush make sure that you use a good product like the AMSOIL one or the likes and then go with a good synthetic fluid. Also then pay close attention to what the old fluid consistency is; does it seem burnt, is there metal shavings, etc. Changing your tranny fluid is never a bad thing.

I can help you with some AMSOIL should you wish to try some. But, from what you're describing, I can't guarantee it will help. That's not to say it won't though.

If your trans has not had some fresh fluids put through, a little maintenance wouldn't be a bad idea. It holds 2 quarts of fluid. So, you aren't looking at an-arm-and-a-leg to service it.

The Yaris manual trans calls for a GL-5 75W-90. I'm running AMSOIL Severe Gear in ours.

When was the last time you changed the gear box oil? Make sure you do it right. Meaning use a pump to put it in there and remove the splash guard because what will happen if you don't is you will have a heck of a time putting the plugs back on and the oil is dripping out.

I use Castrol Syntrax with Nulon g70 gear box treatment and it's good so far.

i am actually having the same issues in the same 07 hatchback right now. it is currently in a toyota dealership and the transmission is out and broken down. i first went in cause 4 gear was a little hard to get into, but once they broke open the transmission all the gears and the synchronisers were ground up pretty bad and isnt worth repair. so my guy over at toyota calls my warranty company up and tells him i need a new transmission because rebuilding would cost 2700 vs 2300. well long story short the warranty company "cna national warranty corporation" is denying my approval for a new transmission because they are saying that there is no way "I" personally can prove that this is a mechanical failure......lol i said how is it not mechanical when all the gears are bad along with the synchs. anyway i am currently at the moment fighting with them trying to get them to pay for it like they should. do not ever go with them by the way lol they are horrible!

but thing is that i have noticed, the third will have a little wall in it until it matches revs, so if i just press a little bit and wait, the gear will go in around 4.5k rmp when reving high.. just like if you'd shift without the clutch for those whose ever done it .. it almost feels like im clutchless shifting when going in third past the 5k rpm
