3rd Gen Gauge Cluster Swap :D

Tired of not having a RPM gauge on your not manual Yaris?
Good News Everyone! I found a cost effective solution!

Using the buying service Buyee I purchased a JDM Vitz gauge cluster off Yahoo Auction Japan to try and see if it would work in my 2014 LE with no tachometer. It was only $30 which is a fraction of the cost of a USDM gauge cluster on Ebay.

Heres the good stuff, before and after!

Pros:
It was (semi) plug and play, both plugs are identical to the USDM cluster.
took 2 minutes to install. Pull trim off with hands, unscrew two screws and then pop the gauge cluster forward, unclipping two clips on top with hand.
Eliminates the TPMS Light if you have aftermarket rims
Beeps and blinks the reverse symbol when in reverse for extra safety
No matter what transmission you have (auto/manual) Every Yaris/Vitz gauge cluster has the readout for the gear you are in. It just doesn't show up when you have a manual car. (this gauge cluster is off a 5MT Vitz and my car is auto)
If you're into the whole JDM hype thing this is a cheap cool swap to get those JDMYO! points ;D I personally am not.

Cons:
Mileage DOES NOT STAY THE SAME. I'm sure you will have to go to Toyota dealership to have a tech change it using tech stream or something. It's not a big deal for me, but if your concerned about your mileage you should track it then go down and geterdone.
Bitch is only in KM but you can just remember 100Km/h is 60 MPH roughly
Outside air temp doesn't read anymore, but the pin on the harness is in the exact same location on both cars, I think its a ECU issue with the Celsius Fahrenheit thing difference.

Update: Just tried jumping a pin around on the harness and it looks like the diagram I got online was a little incorrect, the wire is switched on the Vitz cluster so you will need to re-pin that to get the ambient air temp to read, but it does read correctly once done.

UPDATE: After driving it at night I found out the gauge cluster lights up when you turn the lights on, but the climate control and radio does not! Oh no! Will update again once I re-pin the harness.

Enjoy! I hope this helps someone

You said the odometer stayed the same? Doesn't seem that way since the KM would be higher than your mileage reading. Good to see that they swap though, I'll have to eventually find a USDM cluster with a tach for mine and swap it when the miles match up or have it reprogrammed to be correct.

If you want I can see if the rpm gauge swaps directly into the usdm cluster? Might as well since its so easy to swap the cluster around. I know in Honda's you can do it, it just screws into the board.

I got bored and took the cluster apart just to see.
My findings are that there is a big hunk of plastic behind the gauge overlay, so NO you cannot swap a rpm gauge from another cluster in
Some other interesting info is that the orange LED lights behind the cluster are soldered onto the board, so you also cant change the color of the lights. Just some extra info just in case anyone was wondering.

Why you haven't took an UK speedometer? You have same specifications.

For information Toyota Ractis 2011 (Verso-s Euro model) have same plug and play connector on your Vitz - Yaris 2014. You need change front clear plastic. And keep back black plastic with clusters is the same as the Yaris. Make sure if it's CVT or MT and milage on odometer.

For the odometer to read correctly in miles, CTScott is the go-to-guy. Techstream won't be able to do it.
Here is his thread on that. link
He also does LED color changes.
He also has another thread here. On-the-fly KMH to MPH and back with the flick of a switch!

Thanks for the info. I don't really mind all that stuff though. Doesn't bother me, maybe will in the future.

I am looking for the parts # for the yaris instrument cluster USDM, does anyone have it so I can swap in the MT with the taco into my 2015.

also will the eco system still be retained/ all the lights and signals that the AT cluster does?

Also I have entire toyota dealership service manual for the 3rd gen I can upload that tells you how to remove the gauge cluster and pretty much everything the yaris needs done to it, car is a 2013 but the model range is basically the same up till 2018. no sedan included just hatchback.
