Code P0011 Error on 2007 Yaris - need help!

Hello,

I got a 2007 Yaris Hatchback that i purchased June 2007, during a longer trip yesterday the check engine light came on.

I went to autozone and they determined it to be a P0011 code which states "Camshaft position "A" timing over advanced or system performance bank 1"

anyone have an idea what this could be? I found the following which could explain it, but has anyone else had this problem?

I have gotten the same fault code. it has disappeared on its own, but now it is back again, did you resolve this issue? Was it a solenoid?

could be a faulty oil control valve sensor or an issue with the VVT-i. This is likely if you are not noticing any others changes in the car. When was your last oil change and was the drive belt changed? Sometimes the OCV can become damaged when the belt is changed as you use that area to place a long handled screwdriver to leverage the alternator to put tension on the belt.

Usually that code follows a recent service where the belt was changed and the person changing it made the mistake of prying against the valve.

Have you been good about oil changes? A blocked oil passage could cause this. However, I don't know how sensitive VVTi is, I neglected my oil for quite some time then changed with 10w40 since I had a stash of it for free, and had no problems.

Other than that, yup, solenoid would be where I look. It's possible there's a timing problem, but I have never heard of that happening on an NZ.

There is actually a screen filter in the block, just below the valve that could get plugged.

I have never heard of a US market 1NZ having timing chain issues, but chain stretch seems to be fairly common on the French made European Yaris engines.

1. Change spark plugs every 20,000 km intervals
2. Change oil regular intervals 5000 km and oil filter every 10,000/-
3. Change cam scanner (this might be a problem but check it before replacing component)
4. Check fuel cap if damaged change it
5. Change gear oil and its filter every 40,000 km intervals
6. P0011 : possible cause oil control valve

If not lucky, the problem with cam shaft gear.

Hi guys, several days back I changed the belt and today I got the P0011 error. I think I did the mistake of prying against this piece.

Do you have a way of testing the oil control valve to see if it is working fine?
