Longer Life Oil Filter?

Claims to filter oil so well you will need fewer changes.

From the web site:

http://www.electrolubegreen.com/home.html

"Electro-Lube Green

Since 1977, an industry leader in bypass oil refiners, Electro-Lube’s proven technology is the product of decades of development and operation with thousands of installations on five continents.

Based on the proven fact that motor oil never wears out, it only gets contaminated or its additives get depleted, it stands to reason that if we keep it clean and free of solid particulate matter and undiluted by water, diesel fuel, glycol coolants and highly corrosive acids, lubricating oil will retain its physical and chemical properties almost indefinitely. This results in permitting greatly extended oil change intervals with substantial savings for anyone who operates internal combustion engines or industrial machinery.

Electro-Lube Refiners filter out solid particles down to 5 microns, while original equipment filters on the engine will only effectively remove particles of over 30 microns in size; 60% of engine wear is caused by particles smaller than 30 microns. It traps and neutralizes acids, keeps water content to less than 0.5% and fuel dilution to less than 1%. It helps prevent sludge which forms when dirty oil is too saturated to carry away all of the waste products it has cleaned out of your engine.

Since Electro-Lube is a bypass refiner, it cannot block the flow of oil to the engine although it will greatly prolong the service life of the original equipment full-flow filters that come with the engine. Major engine manufacturers are on record as saying that although they make no claims for after-market installations, a correctly installed Electro-lube by-pass refiner system will not affect their new engine warranty."

good read ^^

Amsoil has filters that filter down to 2 microns(this bypass thing supposedly does 5), and don't use old opened oil, and I doubt you'll get water in your oil.

Yeah amsoil has their own version that you can use in conjunction with their 25,000 mile oil.

I used to use the EA oil filters from Amsoil, but my vendor told me that he got a notice that Amsoil advises against using it in the Yaris because of Toyota's sludging problems. Since then, I've switched back to WIX filters.

for most cars an extended life filter would be awesome... but since you can change out the yaris filter without draining more than a cup of oil, it makes it very easy to do long oil change intervals yet still have good filters.

Multiple people on here run 10k or longer oil intervals and just swap out a new filter every 5k.

+1
Change oil every 10K and after 5-6 years trade the car for something else

those things work, but seriously peeps:

1) voids the vehicle warranty

2) mobil 1 at 12,000 miles change, and a toyota filter, is a much better idea
(have run a 5vzfe like this for 210,000 miles, still better numbers than a new 5vzfe)

3) you only need this type of stuff if you are running a d9 in the desert and have
a fleet to take care of. or you run a desalination or power plant. seriously, a little yaris
with an oil-recycle system ? gimme a break.

Here's the list of Toyota's engines that had the sludge problem:

Camry 4 cyl. Produced 8/96 - 7/01

Camry 6 cyl. Produced 8/96 - 8/02

Solara 4 cyl. Produced 6/98 - 5/01

Solara 6 cyl. Produced 6/98 - 8/02

Sienna 6 cyl. Produced 7/97 - 6/02

Avalon 6 cyl. Produced 7/96 - 6/02

Celica 4 cyl. Produced 8/96 - 4/99

Highlander 6 cyl. Produced 11/00 - 8/02

Yeah, I remember seeing that list in the letter that Toyota sent us (that's why I was puzzled when my vendor told me that). Still don't want to take a chance since I won't be able to afford repairing the engine just in case it does sludges over

I thought it was a fuel dilution concern with the Amsoil filter...and WIX makes the Amsoil filter, or used to, but you probably already knew that...nearly identical except for the different media.

I actually didn't know WIX makes/made Amsoil's EA filters. I knew they make Napa oil filters.

They change their supplier often...it was WX, before that I think it was Hastings...not too sure but it could be Baldwin now.
