Which Gearbox oil UK?

Hi all,

So I have a 1.4 litre diesel Toyota Yaris and since I do all the servicing myself, thought it was about time to replace the gearbox oil as I have a couple grinding issues infrequently. The car has done 176000 miles so far and I want to run it to at least 200000 so are there any high mileage gearbox oils that may be better for this car, or failing that, something to help the gears not be so stiff and rubbish to change when cold?

I believe the gearbox oil says to use 75w-90, but if people can give me suggestions on oils to see if it does help the above problems then that will be much appreciated. I am in the UK though, so I will need to know whether I can get it over here.

Final thing, what gaskets need to be replaced on the fill and drain plugs? Are they a washer basically, or something different that is best to get from Toyota?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

I would stick with the weight the manufacturer recommends, but you could use 75w90 synthetic, would keep it from getting so stiff when cold, but costs more. The oil plug should have a seal washer on it, very important to use one, a lot of shops will lose it and put plug in without one, so they over tighten plug and strip threads out in pan.

at toyota the drain plug washer is like $2 (USD) or less. the fill is about the same, but i think it's thicker and does not need replacement. i don't remember. toyota recommends using gl4/gl5 75w-90. most dealerships use a local bulk oil service and not OEM oil. some are recommending using ATF as an oil. there is another post about using a full synthetic 75w-80 with a youtube video.

after watching that video i found this one interesting:
