Lexus IS350

Have you owned one or know anybody that has? I've recently discovered this amazing 'sleeper' car, watched many videos and there's a nicely loaded 2008 for sale at a local Lexus dealer. I am so tempted to take it out for a test drive!

The IS250 and 350 of that era remain one of my favourite Lexus designs. Such elegance.

Indeed, WeeYari! It is a thing of beauty - and a beast - all wrapped up in one. And, from what I've seen on the videos, a complete blast to drive. Lots of style and 0 - 100 km/h in under 5 seconds, naturally aspirated!

While the unbeaten, stock is300 are rare, an is350 is not available in manual.

It depends what you want to do with it. Is300's are old..

I had a look at the 300s. Very nice. Less horsepower, but more torque. I've got no issues with automatics. For me - if I were in the market - I think the front runner would be the 350. There seem to be a reasonable number of them for sale and pricing is not too bad for a used one - $9K to $13K for an '07 - '10 ish. The one locally has 140K kms on it, which is relatively low for the year. Asking price is below $13K, but could probably be had for closer to $12K. It's also completely stock, which I like as it 'suggests' that it may not have been used hard, but that's no guarantee of course.

The IS350 has the 2GR which is inherently a pretty decent V6, but from what I've read it hasn't taken up interest as much as a BMW 3-series, Mazda RX-8, etc.. because enthusiasts really want a manual option. If you dig the slushbox then I gather it's a pretty fun ride. An alternative option if you want 2GR power is a V6 Camry - sounds silly, but can be found for less money and they pull surprisingly hard for a boring family sedan, lol. Apparently they're about a 6s 0-60 mph time, so a bit slower. and you are going FWD instead of RWD. I'd take the IS350 by preference too, but just throwing the option out there if it's a casual interest in something peppy for a family ride, but budget is a factor..

I had Toyota's 2GR engine in my 2005 Camry. That car was surprisingly fast!

The pre-2014 Lexus IS350 is a really handsome sedan... something I certainly can't say about any Lexus today.

I have always liked these. I like the lines of the older IS300 more, but they're all so ragged and overpriced and not particularly fast, plus pretty heavy.

Thanks Adam. I didn't know that the Camry came with that engine. It's been eons since I've owned a rear wheel drive car. I think the combo of rear wheel drive and auto would be perfect.

I called the lexus dealer and found out that the car belonged to the service manager for the past 4 years. It was stored during winter while he owned it. Some lucky oerson is going to get a great ride!

I can't believe I missed this thread - I've had my eye on 2nd gen IS350's as my future DD with a nice set of coilovers and rims. These cars look really classy when lightly and tastefully modified.

The issues in my neck of the woods is finding a 350 vs a 250. 250's can be found as low a $4k-10k but IS350's are really hard to find in a 2nd gen. I don't want the 250 and have to deal with the carbon buildup that come with DI motors. The 350 has Toyota's D4S system so it avoids that issue. That said, I would free up a lot more money to spend on coilovers, exhaust and rims if I went for a 250 instead.

These are one of the few luxury sedans that will always stand the test of time. Tasteful but not over done. I do like the 3rd gens but not as much as the 2nd.

Better looking than the 250 or 350 imho too. Unsure of the available transmission choices though.
