Exclamation 1NZ-FE Block Housing Thickness (Oil Pan Sub Assembly)

To give you perspective of what you are working with when tapping the block housing for any type of fitting.

Which also demonstrates the need for a fitting with a retainer washer/nut on the inside.

Unfortunately yes. I spoke with two welders here that are considered very good to excellent with welding aluminum. Neither would touch my motor. They both would have tack welded a plate to the outside of the assembly to reinforce and "thicken" the mounting point however with the lack of thickness in the first place as well as the ridges in the assembly they didn't feel confident that it was a proper solution therefore the sandwich type fitting is the only route that I have at least.

+1

When I tapped the block for the return I remember getting comfy thinking I was going to be there for awhile. I was through it 5 seconds later
