It mentions removing a right side engine under cover. Is this to perform the job from underneath the vehicle, on a lift? Can it also be performed by removing the front bumper? Or do you HAVE to remove the front bumper anyway? Or can it be done from the top?

It can be done from the top without removing the front bumper, I know because I've done it and Ive also had to put on a serpentine belt on the side of the highway, fun stuff.

As stated check out the stickied service manual and get familiar with that section. Understand how the wiring clips to the alt. so you don't break those. Be sure to understand where to apply force when tightening up the belt after replacement. That said I can have one off in 15 minutes from the hood opening.

Those are good points. Make very sure that you disconnect the battery before pulling the alternator wiring. The large gauge wire is directly connected to the battery with a larger fuse than you want to experience popping. Also, as mentioned you have to be very careful not to pry against the camshaft timing oil control valve.

G'day I know this is an old post but, the 14 mm bolt is extremely difficult to access from the top...what do you suggest for tools ??
I'm using 3/8 ratchet w/14mm six point socket but there isn't enough engagement for the ratchet to socket; it hits the idler pulley, no room for a regular extension ps I have removed the A/C line bracket as noted in the service manual cheers & thanx yak |
