After rereading my post #40 on this thread, I wasn't saying which I use (conventional or synthetic) but I can see why someone reading that post might think I use synthetic. I've never used synthetic oil in any car I've owned, and I've evolved to a philosophy fairly similar to UberSilver's post #8 on this thread re mileage intervals. I think the deal Why? found in his area is amazing. Only $1.05 more for a synthetic change/filter in MA than a conventional change/filter in TX! I've found almost everything to be more expensive in MA than in TX.

One might wonder why the lack of an 'outcry' re Toyota's warranty not matching that of some competitors. I feel there isn't an 'outcry' because matching those warranties isn't necessary. The overall reliability of Toyota vehicles across the whole company speaks for itself.

To others: I don't know why the system is doing this, but bairjo is replying to my post in #58 and I'm replying to his post in this #59 - not each of us replying to our own posts.

Thanks. I don't know why are getting that system area. When this specific thread started, I looked at my log book and made a list of the mileage for each oil change. Then I misplaced the list. I just found it. I'll include it as a reply to UberSilver's post #8 and as a last post on this until next month or beyond. In the beginning (when I was still under warranty and also a noob as a Toyota owner) I changed my oil more frequently. For the last 122k + miles I've tried to be just under 20k between oil/filter changes.

Never had any issues with the truck or engine.

Toyotas do not need 3k~5k mile oil changes. It's just a waste of money.(IMO).
^^^^^This. Pretty much. For the last 122k + miles I've tried to be just under 20k miles between oil/filter changes. Over the 'life' of my Yaris, per my log book, I've changed my oil and filter at the following mileage points on the car: 10,002 miles.....15,119 miles.....20,003 miles.....25,057 miles.....38,036 miles.....72,050 miles.....87,708 miles.....110,150 miles.....113,548 miles.....131,751 miles.....153,918 miles.....169,891 miles.....188,622 miles.....207,297 miles.....226,835 miles. I currently have 235,728 miles on my Yaris. I had the spark plugs replaced at just over 208,000 miles for the first time (amazingly, a Toyota dealer was the cheapest place I found). When I picked the car up, the service writer at the dealership told me they tried to find things to recommend that I do re service, and the only thing they could come up with was to change the air filter (I had a new one waiting in the wings t put in myself after the spark plug change). He said the engine is in great shape and is not burning any oil.

P.S. oops...almost certain I left one out. I felt guilty after the 34,014 lapse between odometer 38,036 and 72,050 so I changed again at 74,000+ . Will check log book again.

P.P.S. Checked. 74,000+, to be exact, was 74,480

Good to hear! FYI, I will be changing the auto trans fluid once a year as well, as it only needs 3 quarts, and I pretty much drive my cars like I've stolen them

Good to know. I have a manual, but lilyaris' 10 asked me, The Sin, and triniper4mance about when to change ATF on another thread. We all have manual transmissions, so I'll update him with your ATF change interval.

So now you have voided out any warranty you had left or you were already out of warranty...correct?
Of every Toyota I have ever owned....and its been 6 so far....I never had any mechanical issue and never had to use the warrant. My 2011 Van had the windshield crack the day after delivery and was fixed under warranty, but that has been it.

Except for the breakin oil, you can go 10k+ with confidence! Especially if you are using synthetic.....and i am sure some Moose brain will chime in about that.

LOL (can't resist replying) -- I drove away after one oil/filter change and noticed (steam? light? Both? --- can't remember) and pulled over and checked under the hood. They didn't put the cap back on after putting the oil in the engine! I drove back to the place and pointed this out to the owner. They drove to the Toyota dealership, bought me a new cap, returned, changed the oil and filter again, and gave the car back to me with a cupon for a free oil change. I did avail myself of the free oil change (and double checked the results upon completion), but by the time for the next oil/filter change came around I went to another place I'd found (that was cheaper as well).

" It costs about $20 for synthetic oil changes at home . Oil filter $4 ( AC Delco PF1233 or Toyota YZZF2 ) , 4 quarts Shell synthetic oil at $3.50 each ( w/tax ) , and paper towels . Can't beat that . Here are U.O.A.s from the sedan . Column 1 : Shell syn 5w-20 , 2nd : Shell syn 5w-30 , 3rd : Pennzoil Yellow Bottle ( P.Y.B. ) regular 5w-30 . All oil intervals in the reports had the Toyota 90915-YZZF2 oil filter . "

Did a oil change earlier and will be posting a new U.O.A. of the SHELL synthetic 5w-20 (S.N.) with a AC Delco oil filter . The oil / filter had 4,649 miles of use . Had to get it done thanks to poor weather in the upcoming weeks . Have to change oil / filter on the driveway ( brrrrr , was 28 with a light wind and some sun ) . Replaced the AC Delco to the Toyota oil filter with another round of the SHELL syn 5w-20 . Will be about a few weeks before posting the U.O.A.. Hope all turns out well .
