Oh and i drive 55-60 on the highway, with DFCO whenever i have the chance. In town i take accelerations easy, upshift at about 2500 rpm's and try to keep it constant at 40-50mph. hard to do with all the lights though, even though that means more DFCO :).
A pizza deliverer that drives the speed limit. Didn't know that existed :o/

when I first bought the yaris 09 i got 32-33 MPG, mixed driving around 75-80 MPH. Then I put an AFE dry cold air intake on, inflated my tires to 40 psi and got 33-37 MPG doing 75-80 MPH, I changed my oil to amsoil, 5w30 with high efficiency oil filter and got 37-39.5 MPG, then I changed my transmission fluid to amsoil, and got 42.8 MPG. So I tried to slow it down and let off the accelerator as much as possible, driving between 55-65 MPH and shot up to 48.9 MPG thats with the original tires (88000 miles) just got new Defender 185/60-15 tires on there now and hope my MPG dont drop any, hoping it gets better. My yaris is an AT.

^^ Hmmm... maybe I should do the amsoil things to my 09. I'm getting 30-32 consistently. About to turn in a 27 or 28 tank.

Edit: What "high efficiency filter"?

Edit edit: Just filled up, got a 27.6 mpg tank.

If I hadn't previously owned a 07 manual 3-door yaris I probably would be saying Yaris' were terrible at gas mileage. There's something wrong with my current one I'm guessing. Or the 09 AT yaris' really do suck at MPG.

Really good tips here. It almost sounds like an ad for amsoil but I've heard similar results in other threads. But to think that just by switching to amsoil, you've boosted your mpg by 30% is rather impressive.

With my 07 MT Yaris, I consistently get anywhere from 37-40mpg with 30% city driving and 70% highway. Depending on how fast I hit the highway, I can maintain a steady 38+ mpg usually. My hood is slightly up (long story) and someone stole my mirror cover so I know my aerodynamics are horrible. Not only that, I haven't washed the car in a few months...

My sister has the 10 AT Yaris and she tells me that she consistently gets low 30s 80% freeway in hers.

My brand spanking new '13 HB, AT with roll up windows gets 37-39mpg. On its third tank. I drive 100 miles round trip up hills and down. I try to keep it 60-65mph.

Plan to lower it, add front under tray, rear defuser, and side skirts. Then I'm gutting it down to the drivers seat. Aluminum exhaust post CAT, cold air intake. Replacing oil and tranny fluid with synthetic Royal Purple.

I deliver pizzas with my yaris (still on my first tank of gas since I bought it..) and the first weekend I drove (about 200 miles over 2 days) I got between 38-44mpg the entire duration of delivery. I gotta say I am pretty happy with this car so far!

I don't know what you're doing to get this gas mileage.

With my 2009, with a manual, I got 38 mpg.

With my 2012, with an automatic, I'm getting 35 mpg. That's on pure gas, no ethanol.

Now I'm no lead-footed kid - I'm in my fifties and I drive...like an old fart in his fifties. I'm okay with the mileage but I'm not ecstatic.

Long time ago I had a Geo Metro 3-cylinder with a manual. I got 52 mpg with that. But that was about 800 pounds lighter - the added weight due to the newer safety standards.

Yeah, I wonder why some people get such poor fuel mileage figures. Even with numerous trips at Interstate speeds, I still obtain around 40 MPG per tank. I am extremely happy with this little car.

I am on my first gas tank at this time and am using a figure from my Automatic Link system - they may be giving me inaccurate figures. I currently have about ~335 miles with 2 bars left on the tank. If I do my math that is likely an average of 36mpg - still not bad, but my link had most of my trips at ~38-42 on most trips.

Part of it might be how flat this Houston metro is. Much of it is pancake flat. My Yaris has been in 46 states, and when I first bought my Yaris, I lived in the San Francisco Bay Area...and still visit. Houston metro = better MPG than S.F. Bay Area and many other areas.

Another factor might be the tire PSI level a particular owner is 'running'.

after filling up it turns out I am getting exactly 36mpg. My link is either broken or not calculating correctly with the standard transmission

I am anal about parking in the shade during the summer, and often the tiny Yaris makes that easier. I'll back into a space rather then forward if it keeps the windshield out of the sun, and I use a sunblocker. Heavy tint, and a white Yaris. If I am going to be parked for several hours, I'll compensate for the changing sun angles so that when I leave the preheating is minimal. For instance: leaving in the late afternoon, I'll choose a spot that aims east, even though that is right into the sun at the time. My tank averages are always in the 40's, low to mid.

The absolute worst MPG I've ever gotten was 27.x That was the first tank after I got my supercharger and quite a bit of time was spent at full throttle. I usually drive like I'm in Fast & Furious 9000 and still get 32mpg in town with a supercharged automatic sedan.

My daughter gets 28MPG in Yaris in city driving this winter. Now, she is also known to get under 40MPG in my prius while I get 50-60MPG, so I should say the yaris almost meets expectations.

If you can get 50 plus mpg city, you'd be up there in Prius territory .
