March Yaris Sales: Down

March 2014 Yaris sales were down 24.6% compared to March, 2013. Year-to-date Yaris sales are down 43.5% March '14 sales totaled 1,804 units, with year-to-date sales totaling 4,414 units.

For what it's worth, the Prius c was down 4.9% compared to March '13,selling 3,685 units last month; 8,833 units have been sold in '14. The Prius c is roughly outselling the Yaris 2:1.

The Scion xD, also on the Yaris chassis, was down 1.5% vs. March '13, but year-to-date sales are up 1.1% vs. '13. There were 800 xD models sold in March '14 and 2,054 units sold this year so far. Full details:

Ugh. If this trend continues, I imagine the planning for the '15 will include fewer units?.....in already shortened year (re the Yaris coming from Mexico)? If this ends up being the case, I imagine this will make a manual transmission '15 even harder to find?

Three of my neighbors (on the next street) have purchased new cars in the last few weeks. One got rid of a fairly new 'Big 3' full sized pickup and got a new top of the line 2014 Civic sedan. The people next door to them got rid of a well worn mid sized Buick sedan and got a 2014 Corolla (not an S, unfortunately). A family down the street added a new 2014 Civic sedan.

ewww, honda. lol.

I am pretty sure Toyota doesn't care. The volume of Yaris on lots is so low I doubt they can reduce it even if they wanted to. As it is there is only 2 or 3 on the majority of dealers lots.

,...and it turns out the big pickup wasn't traded in on the Honda. I saw it earlier tonight. Thanks for the inventory info. Another YW member who also lives in the Houston metro (CobraJet428 I think) wrote that a rep at Gullo Toyota in Conroe (the county seat of 'my' county) told him they could order a 5-speed manual L, so I may look into that when the 2015s first come out.

I agree. I bought a 2014 5 door LE so I could give my 2008 sedan to my daughter and there are very few Yaris on the lots and it doesn't look like many are on the way. Corollas and Camrys are what are being promoted and sold. Of course, that's where the profits are.

Numbers reflect U.S. sales.

It's a shame to see sales are down on a fantastic car.

We've been so pleased with our car. I tell everyone about how great it is. Shoot, even my sister bought a Yaris based on my input.

My dealer had zero Yaris models on the lot the other day when I was there. When I originally bought my Yaris, there were only two on the lot. Luckily, my Yaris was exactly the model for which I was looking, and the dealership was very glad I showed up. Why people do not flock to this car for the fuel economy and reliability is beyond me.

When I got mine, they had 3. The dealer down the road a bit carries a bunch of them. Though being overpriced and in a slightly hidden area, I doubt I'd get a new car from them.

Lack of promotion I think.

I agree. Perhaps this will change when production shifts to Mexico, as Mazda has allocated 50,000 engines for Toyota out of a 230,000 annual capacity (per Mazda release Kal-El uncovered).

You can't even FIND a Yaris at my local dealer, they're literally all boxed in and hidden from view by Camrys and Corollas.

let me know where. yaris can be had here for $14k. I don't see any corollas for that price (around here, anyway). the cheapest corolla around here is right at $16k.

at any rate, until production moves to N. America, Toyota has little incentive to push the yaris here, as the models being produced overseas are not profitable (enough) to bother.

No, people don't want them because the complete and total lack of features. A well featured Yaris is now about the price of a Prius C. In my area the cheapest I could get it with an auto is $16k. With Prius C's now being discounted to about $17k, who would even look at a Yaris?

If it was back down in the $12k range it might be worth it, but no way at $16k. A Corolla or a Prius C can get the same or better gas mileage, has much better features, and is bigger.

If the Prius C was available at these prices when I was looking in 2006 I would have bought it over the Yaris.
