Toyota Tundra...No Synthetic?

My son in law just bought a Toyota Tundra with the 4.6 V8. He said the dealer told him this is the last Toyota engine that was designed to use regular motor oil. All the others are speced for synthetic and have 10,000 mile change intervals. His must use conventional oil which is changed every 5000 mils. (presumably by the dealer)

Truth or fiction?

This is as of 07/2012. IT shows yaris as being conventional oil too, but not your engine. I do believe the Yaris is now listed for syn.

for shame Bronsin....you know better than that. The day a manufacturer actually puts that only conventional can be used and that a synthetic cannot will get that manufacturer in the courthouse on Monday morning. They all have to meet or bear API standards regardless of whether or not they are conventional or synth. The only application that I am aware of that cannot use synth is the Mazda rotary because of how the motor is inherently designed.

This is what the dealer told my son in law.

I know MY reaction to that but I want to hear it from others before I tell him.

I have run synthetics in every car I've owned the last 15 years and especially my Tundra! I still change it every 7,500 miles, which is like once a year with this truck not getting the use it once did, still pushing 190,000 miles from previous use. Been running it in the Yaris since I bought it and want go back, will soon install synthetic gear oil in the 5-speed.

Just what is needed , more confusion . Synthetics are safe . Why would Honda , Toyota and other car manufacturers sell their own synthetic blends and full synthetics which are produced by major oil companies . I suppose to ruin their engines along with their reputation .
