off the to the track 7/28!

My tC is in the shop, so I'm off to the "Infield" at California Speedway tomorrow with the Yaris instead.

I'll try to do you proud YarisWorld!

I'm back, and that rocked. Totally underpowered on the straights (had to point by just about everyone but the Miatas), but the Yaris kicked ass on the turns.

The rule today was that if someone was on your butt for two full turns, you must point them by. Hehe -- Corvette, SRT-4, EVO, S2000, they all had to let me by (and slow down to do it, because 90 whp ain't gonna pass them easily.)

Truthfully this was not an advanced group, (I was hanging with my tC friend and my tC is in the shop) but I was surprised at how well the car is weighted for hard cornering.

Street tires, stock brakes, and few suspension mods -- not bad, little bean!

LSD would NOT have helped -- unless I threw it at a passing car?

The little bug is a very chuckable machine in the corners because of its small size and how its four wheels are at the extreme corners of the car. With little weight in front of the front axles or behind the rear axle, it turns on a dime.

On my favourite road, my friend in his RX8 couldn't gain on me through about a mile and a half worth of winding road. He commented the Yaris is quick around the bends, while his car felt too big for him to really open the taps and fling it around.

There's really not much mass to slow down or to accelerate, as its success in autocrossing shows. I'd love to see the Fit do that. On the track I found I can make up a lot of ground under brakes, simply by braking later and still shedding enough speed for the turn.

The car feels capable enough for another 50 or so whp, if the weight and driving dynamics in the turns can be kept the way it is.

That's about the figure I'm thinking too -- next thing will be a set of rims and very sticky tires -- the cheap Kumho's I have are good for the street but really not appropriate for the track.

SORRY about the pics!
I have two lame pics of my car in the garage at the track. I'm trying to see if ANYONE took action shots from the pedestrian overpass thing.

My friend took in-car video but....well, umm... I'm not sure if he was ever behind me? I'll ask.

Ok, here's a web page with my second session on it, so at least you know I went (LOL):

(I registered with my Scion, but took the Yaris because the tC was in the shop)
