08 Yaris issue

Hi all, just bought an 08 Yaris. I have noticed a shake in the wheel when the A/C is on. A relative noticed the engine seemed to be shaking when she touched the hood of the car, whether the air was off or on. I want to take care while its under warranty. What might this issue be? Thanks.

Sometimes when my rpm drops a little at idle, I get a little more vibration. I am not worried about my car. Let us know what they say.

It is definitely true that the engine vibrates more at lower RPMs. The Yaris engine is mounted in such a way to reduce the vibration as much as possible. The rubber bushings of the left and rear mounts can dry up and the hydraulic dampened right mount can fail. Any combination of these mounts not working right can lead to feeling the vibration far more than you should.

I'd think your mounts are gone. I just picked up aftermarket one's from my PO box to replace on my Echo. I have a very rough vibration, rattle and noise when i'm stopped and in D. It goes away when in N or P. I think the current mounts are the originals and i'm at 353,000km so not too shabby.

Either that or you just have the typical small engine rougher idle at low rpm's. It can be annoying but you'll get used to it

Thanks for the input. I have also noticed that when the A/C is on full, the car sometimes doesn't accelerate. I understand it's a small engine, however I previously owned a Chevy Metro, so I know what that's like compared to this. I could barely get up the hill until I reduced the A/C. What should I tell the dealership to fix? Thanks

Standard or auto? If it's auto just slam your foot to the floor, the Yaris tends to err on the side of fuel efficiency so it isn't close to a sport drive so the downshift isn't instant. On my '02 Echo I had to tighten the throttle cable as it was loose and was causing it to be more difficult to down shift.

In your case you are drive by wire so there is no cable to tighten. It could be a leaking exhaust, dirty air filter, as well as many other things so it would be tough to narrow down if there is in fact an issue with acceleration.

If it is a standard then just down shift. It's a small engine but I find if I need power and downshift to about 5,000 rpm's it has more than enough.
