DTC p2118 and traction control lamp
So I got the car aligned at school today and after starting it up the second time I get TCS lamp and p2118 from auto zones scan tool and my 20$ China special with the smart phone
The ticket from auto zone says 1 Actuator control motor current range/performance probable cause 2 open in ETCS power source circuit 3 poor electrical connection The ESCS fuse is good as well as abs/vsc1 and 2 |

p2118 is for the electronic throttle control. Check and clean your battery terminals.
The TRAC lamp could be totally unrelated, but it too may resolve when you clear up the 2118.

Cleared the code with my scanner the day of my origional post and it hasn't come back. I still plan on cleaning the TB since this car sees a lot of auto x
Cleaned my terminals as well as the battery case today and after 20-30 minutes driving over a few drive cycles no change in TRAC light which has been constantly on since i origionally posted. The car seems normal in all aspects besides the light being on and no traction control. I have tested the system with a few burnouts since posting and it is definitely not working and shows |

You can read the codes for the VSC using a jumper on the OBD connector:
1. Using a jumper wire connect terminals 13 (TC) and 4 (CG) of the DLC3. 2. Turn the ignition switch to ON. 3. Observe the blinking pattern of the ABS warning and SLIP indicator lights in order to identify the DTC. 4. Count the number of blinks of the ABS warning and SLIP indicator lights. When the system is operating correctly, each light will blink continuously in a pattern of 0.25 seconds on, then 0.25 seconds off. When one DTC is output, each lamp will output the same code at 4 second intervals. (For example, Code 21 would be output as 2 flashes, a 1.5-second pause, and then 1 flash) When 2 or more DTCs are output, each lamp will output a different code at 2.5-second intervals, and when all codes have been output, there will be a 4-second pause and the sequence will repeat. When multiple codes are set, they are output in order starting with the lowest DTC number. To clear the DTC: 1. Using a jumper wire connect terminals 13 (TC) and 4 (CG) of the DLC3. 2. Turn the ignition switch to ON. 3. Clear the DTCs stored in the ECU by depressing the brake pedal 8 times or more within 5 seconds.

So does this method show "active" codes and "saved" codes?
The lamp illuminated after getting my alignment done and the steering wheel is ~20° off center which could cause C1290. Also the ABS lamp is not illuminated |

The track lamp illuminated after a quarter mile driving with the alignment off center after getting the car off the rack

Do the reset procedure and see if they come back or not.

So it does display codes that are no longer active?

I am not sure. The FSM does not specifically say if reading the codes this way shows just current or also historical. If you read them with a Toyota Techstream tool it would differentiate. That's why I said reset and see if they come back. That way you will know if they are current or historical.

So just an update. I haven't done anything to fix this issue. If anything it's a positive for me at the moment because I don't have to turn off vsc for auto x and abs is still fully functional. Will probably try to fix it for winter in the coming months
