Power Steering & Radio went out while driving.

Hey all, I wasn't sure where to post this and I couldn't find anything related in the search.. I have a 2007 yaris sedan s.

This morning while driving I noticed my radio went out. All the lights went out in my dash and then my power steering went out. I don't think the car itself stopped running though. About 4 seconds later everything turned on again and the power steering came back on. Anybody know what this could be? There have been two times in the past where I start my car and the headlights seem like they want to go out and the power steering isnt working. I usually just turn off the car and start it again and it works fine after that.

Thanks in advance. :)

That is definitely and odd one. There are a few things that could cause it. I would start with checking the battery terminals to make sure they are tight and are not corroded.

Besides that I could see the IG2 relay causing it, if the relay cuts out. The IG2 relay is part of the integration relay in the under hood fuse box.

That warning light is for the alternator. Check the battery voltage with the engine running to see if the alternator is charging the battery. While you are under the hood, also make sure that it is not a case where the belt is gone.

This exact thing happened to me a few years ago. The guy who swapped my crank pulley detached one of the cables that is close by and forgot to put it back in. Make sure that plug is secure!

I have a couple of tested spares on hand if you need one.

Where did you get the alternator from? Many of the aftermarket ones are problematic as they do not send out the charging indicator signal correctly.

Amazon and i just took it for a drive to see if the lights dimmed and sure enough they spiked and then dimmed, will that be a faulty voltage regulator?

That does sound like the regulator is bad.
