I have a 2007 with 88,000 miles and no problems with belt yet. I live in Florida so it is not around cold weather.

The belt on my ECHO was fine after 8 years and 50k miles. (same belt) They appear to last a very long time.

Better take it to a reputable shop, check any crack on it and the tension.

Just to be safe, you don't have to change it, just check it up.

I changed mine at about 90,000 it was still in great shape, but I'd say if you want to throw a number out I think changing it every 100,000 miles is a good round figure. Its a $35 part not a big deal to replace then to have it brake on you, but if you want to go longer, just visually inspect it with a mirror or have a shop check it. they will usually check it for free.
