changing shoes in a drum is not that bad, if it ever needs to be done. my last car went 338,000 miles on the factory shoes when i sold it. i had purchased them 3 times, and returned them to the store 3 times. shoes last forever if the wheel cylinders do not leak. that is the best benefit. (fronts were serviced/replaced 5x in that time frame)
disks looks pretty, but they require 3x the maintenance... |

I was toying with an axle swop when my rear bearings went but i went with new bearings in the end. UK is easy for cheap Yaris spares at this moment in plentiful supply so im lucky with my 1st gen Yaris S the old .rust bucket lives

Yeah, I went 90k miles with mine. About 165k km. Had about 2mm left and only ajusted them twice in its life time. 8 years.
I wonder how long the new ones last. I'm having them adjusted every other year now. And the front brake serviced. They have never looked so great before. I used to never touch them until they need to be replaced lol Sent from my SM-G930W8 using Tapatalk |

i adjusted them every time i replaced the front pads/rotors. i would even buy a set of shoes. they looked good; i'd clean the drum/springs,adjuster and scuff up the contact surface, and adjust the drag and return the shoes to the store. the contact material is 4mm new. i did a lot of highway driving at the time, so the millage is not that fair. i drove the car often, and accumulated 338,000 over like 13 years...

all the more reason to think about rear discs...just glance at the rear pads and rotors and go about your business :P
