mpg for Yaris 1.0L, 1.33L, or diesel versions - Toyota Yaris Forums

Just curious those of you who have the 1.0L, 1.33L, or diesel versions of the Yaris, and if so, what kind of gas mileage to you get? We're only offered the 1.5L version in America, which isn't fair and totally sucks....

You can trade it in on the VW that runs on Diesel and gets 42 mpg..Pay extra .45 on diesel.

RETRO,

I once had a VW, and it was, by far, the most unreliable car I have ever owned. It was in the shop, I kid you not, without fail every two months or sooner. VW parts are not cheap, either. And it's not that easy to find a competent mechanic who can work on VWs. Never ever again will I buy a VW. Ever.

The best car I ever had was a Toyota Corolla. Not a thing went wrong with the car, and I bought it when it was nearly 10 years old and I had it four years. So, I'm hoping to have the same type of luck with my Yaris. I'll be keeping this car a long while, since I bought it new. The only thing that'd make me think of trading it in is if Toyota offered a 1.0L, 1.33L, or diesel Yaris in the States....

But the extra 45 cents you'll pay more for diesel not worth the gain.

Over in the UK, I've got a 2008 1.4 diesel.
Before I started driving economically we were getting in the region of 43 mpg (US) and since driving more economically (ie, slowing down on the motorway, highest gear for the situation, beginners P&G when safe, neutral when safe etc) we're getting tanks in the high 50s, the best being just over 60.1mpg (US).
Its amazing when you can do a journey that used to take over a tank and now only takes a 2/3 - 3/4 of a tank!
In the UK diesel only cost a few pence more than unleaded.

I would go for a diesel if they introduce it here, they are more torquey longer lasting as they are built much stronger than Gas engines and they have much simpler mechanical system if you are into fixing it yourself.
Per my calculations, even with paying extra for the higher diesel you would save more than 5% on fuel expenses.
