I think you mean left hand side of the cluster ;)
In the manual, they say pressing the button/knob to the right of the clsuter is meant to swap between the displays of average fuel consumption, avg trip distance, etc. but i also could not get mine to work.

Was messing around with it yesetrday, the button on the right changes the display from ODO, to Trip A and Trip B. and the left button changes the display below the clock to Temp, AVG fuel consumption, avg speed and avg distance on your current fuel level.

The display is the same as on models, which have the so-called "computer". Models which have this feature also have another button on the other side of the display (like you have below the clock, check this pic of my car). Pressing the far-side button alternates the display as bigdave87 said. Probably your car just doesn't have this feature.

ok so how do i get it to work, what do i look for, some say its there but it not activated becoz the dealer makes money when u want it, the 2005 had it when they did the review on it, so i need to know if the is a plug thats just not plugged in, or do i fit fuse into the fuse box which will switch it on,

I think he means the back of the cluster unit itself? If you swapped your cluster, that means you've had it out and you've already been back there once.

just been messing with the buttons on the analog cluster and it to has this feature but on the other side

This aint my cluster just looks same

if i press the green button
the red display changes though the same things as i stated above but also adds
''eco time for that trip'' and ''time eco been used total''

guessing the wiring should be almost the same so i'll take cluster out tonight and have a look and take some pictures
