Deer Whistles

Just looking at some of the old posts here and deer can do scary damage to a Yaris. Around here the deer aren't really big and I've hit a few with other cars (civic, truck, grand marquis) and never had much more than front bumper damage.

I am a little paranoid after seeing these photos, I work nights and drive thru thick deer country.

Has anyone tried those whistles you install on the bumper to scare deer ? They're ugly but if they work it would be worth it.

I had a couple on my last bike and when approaching deer on the side of the highway they didnt seem to show any signs of noticing anything the deer whistles were supposed to do,dogs didnt react either. Plenty of Youtube video's of spectacular collisions between cars/bikes and deer.

Oh they "work." The deer will definitely hear you coming. The thing is, when a deer notices something moving, it will inevitably stop moving and stand still in the middle of the road, rather than jumping across taking less than half a second. "deer caught in the headlights" ring a bell? The last thing you want is for a deer to know you're coming.

Talking

The deer think they are annoying and want to jump on your car. hehehe J/K I've read they don't work. I had a friend here in NJ who had them and wacked a deer big time.
Conversation the following morning:
Teenage deer- "I was just crossing the street and heard this whistling sound. The next thing I know I'm in a ditch with a bloody nose and my ribs hurt.
Mother deer - "Yeah right..a whistling sound.....You know I found a bong under your bed!"

I was gonna buy a set myself. I heard that they don't work, at all.

Best way to deal with deer that I've seen is to stay sharp. Killing a few during deer season also seems to help.
