DeBadge / Remove Emblems How-To [pics]

I know this is a rather easy "free mod" to do, but I remember a few asking how to do it.

Here is a super simple how-to, to get your rear end looking cleaner..

First step is to CAREFULLY warm up the emblems.. a few seconds is all it needs! A regular hair dryer works fine, but I had my heat gun close by, just be very careful if using one!
Work one side at a time.

Then get out some good 'ol fishing line. Dental floss will also work, but sometimes it's not strong enough, and will break easy.

Just get under an edge, and start "sawing" from top to bottom, all the way until you reach the other side.. simple!

There will be a little adhesive left behind from the emblem.

It comes off very easy with your finger nail.

Clean up whatever little bits are left behind, with WD40... Simple.

Repeat steps for other side.

FINISHED LOOK Shine provided by Turtle Wax ICE.

Enjoy.

Very nice! I'm still debating on whether or not I'll do this.

Thanks for all the work you've been putting into your how-to's. I enjoy reading them, even tho' most aren't of practical use to me personally.

Great mod. Thanks Chris, looks sexy. Brings out the car's natural ghetto booty.

You don't cease to impress me, chris07lb!!! I'll have to try the fishing line instead of dental floss. did you try the dental floss first and it kept breaking? I'm thinking of soaking the fishing line in liquid wax for awhile before..might make it slide a bit better and WOULD keep all the removal as a chemical/heat thing..not a mechanical "sawing" force that might come from dry fishing line. but, i'm just being nit-picky now

AWESOME JOB..clean rear end!

Actually, I think I could have gotten away without any heat. The fishing line made easy work of the adhesive, as I've done all my other cars in the past.. but heatin' her up a little just makes it that much easier.

I removed mine last month when our temp reached 100F and the humidity was aweful, so I grabbed the fishing line and took 'em off. Mine didn't leave that much residue and I could grasp it with my finger, nails hurt the paint even at a 'safe' angle. If you don't do it for the looks at least do it to keep from snagging on drying towels and wash mitts. I went through two wash mitts cause they kept geting caught on that and the back wiper. And can the back wiper extend up like the front windsheild ones when washing?

what pound test did you use? I just tried with some 20lb test and it broke halfway thru the YARIS....It is about 0 here right now and my car is in the direst sun...it looks like i could peel with my fingers the rest of the way, but I don't want to chance it.

It only pulls back, about an inch or so.. won't tilt away like the fronts.

Wish it did, i know it makes washing the front windshield a lot easier.

I'd have to look. It was thin, but like I mentioned above, I could have actually used NO heat at all, as it "sawed" right thru the TOYOTA emblem without any issue.

Just make sure your moving it up and down as you go from one side to the other.. spraying a little WD40 on the fishing line will help also.

*EDIT* I just looked, it was a 25lb. test fishing line.

I'm kinda torn. I love the look of it debadged. But I like people knowing my car's a Yaris.

I mean when I'm driving slow, & by slow I mean the speed limit in the right hand lane, I want the guy riding my arse to know I'm driving a Yaris for pete's sake. Obviously I don't care about being the lead car. Go around me & race to the next red light & I'll meet up with you shortly. For me driving a Yaris is like putting a sign outside my car that says "F-Off, I'm commuting here".

Dude...that is awesome!

I am removing mine cause it is fun. I have the only Yaris in my county still, plus a color that is rare for the S....plus it is an S which to my knowledge is still not offered in my state so it adds that mysterious air about it.
