Yaris Vs ECHO Quality

My ECHO is eight years old now and has not given me a single problem. However, if I do buy a new car one of these days it would probably be a Yaris. But before I do I would like to know: Does the Yaris appear to be as reliable a car as the ECHO has been?

I've only had mine a little over a year...with no problems but I will say the Yaris is MUCH better looking than the Echo...lol

There are few differences beside cosmetics, it's actually the same engine and transmission, though the engine management is different. I would say the Yaris will make you just as happy as your Echo has...

Actually... the yaris has a different transmission... it SHOULD be only a shorter final gear, but i have not had the chance to look deeper into this.

i've had my echo for 2 years 46k, and my yaris for a little over 2 years and 54k now. Both served me very well with out any major problems.

bronsin: let me tell you what's different....

1) now has real SEATS.. not a park bench like the echo.
2) it's a much quieter ride than the echo
3) if you are driving standard, 1st and 2nd gear is much smoother...
4) 2009 now all come with a tach (am i wrong?)
5) it's a 5 seater
6) drive by wire... there's no more throttle cable
7) no more roof antenna (for the sedan)
8) Electric power steering. It's actually full electric, so there's no more PS fluid to change anymore.
9) the yaris uses Iridium spark plugs (some echo used them, but most had standard copper plugs)

i think that's all i can tell you off the top of my head. But even if the echo is 8 years old.. i guess you still can keep it for at least 5-6 years more.. ?

I've had my Yaris for 2 and a half years after driving an Echo for 3 years. I've never had any problems with mine.

It's just a newer computer that has learning capabilities that adjust to your driving style. Some say this is worse because it's harder to tune should you want to add forced induction (turbo).

I think it is the same but has different gear ratios. I could be wrong. Either way, both are reliable...

I think thats the "i" in "VTTi" (or whatever ever the heck the acronym is) for "intelligent". Varible valve timing with intelligence? So the ECHO has it too, or at least an older version of it. But no turbo for me in any case.

I had an ECHO and now I have a Yaris.

The road noise is significantly less in a Yaris.

The quality is a little higher in a Yaris and you get more options and hidey holes.

The Yaris is heavier than the ECHO.

The Yaris holds the road better.

The ECHO uses less gas as it's lighter.

The Yaris seats are more comfortable and easier to fold down and fit stuff in.

The only thing i miss about the ECHO is that it had little hooks in the hatch to hold shopping bags. The Yaris does not.

If you buy a Yaris you won't be disappointed.

Even though Toyota admits themselves that they have let quality slip a bit in recent years (ie The Tundra), I think you'll find the Yaris is very comparable to the Echo in quality and in many ways is a little more upscale.

You probably will not do as well on gas, because as stated prior the Yaris is a little heavier.

Depending on how much money you're looking to spend you might want to hold off until next year when cars like the Honda Insight II are coming out. The Toyota iQ is also supposed to be out, but it seems like this may be up in the air now for NA. Regardless, VW, Honda & even Hyundai are poised to release more fuel efficient vehicles next year aimed at the consumer who cannot or chooses not to spend over 20 grand on a vehicle.

Heard about the iQ but nver imagined we would see it or anything like it here in the US. Now gas is sub $2/gallon (maybe sub $1!) so its even less likely. Pretty soon everyone will be buying F150s and eight cylinder SUVs again saving the US car industry. Then gas will hit $5/gallon again. Repeat over and over. I wish more people would settle for a Yaris!
Love buying a Made In Japan car!
