In designing the intake I'm currently running, the philosophy was to maintain as straight an air run as possible to maintain air flow velocity. That thing has what, two 90, one 45, and one 110 degree changes in direction.

Gotta be homemade.

you guys and your ridiculously complicated intakes... this is simple and works awesome. i cant imagine you could beat the performance of it either.

colder air = denser air = better.

still.. having a long bendy tube isn't good for performance either. and this motor doesn't exactly generate a crazy amount of heat.

Cold air intakes generally work by introducing cooler air from outside the hot engine bay
Some strategies used in designing cold-air intakes are:

* increasing the diameter of the air intake, allowing increased airflow.
* smoothing the interior of the intake to reduce air resistance.
* providing a more direct route to the air intake. << maybe to many bends i do agree there >>>>>But on the sedan you have to route around the brake line and another bracket to reach the wheel well.
* tuning the length of the intake to provide maximum airflow at certain engine speeds (RPM).
* using a more efficient, less restricting air filter.

** Also this is what is known as a Fender Mount which grabs air near the fender which i would say is a " few " degrees cooler than the ones right next to the engine.

AEM has similiar bend not EXACT price $255

I pretty much only paid the price of the K&N. Guess i could clean up the welds and throw a few " brand " name stickers on it. Maybe it'll suck air better that way

So you made it yourself?

I agree with you, looking at the designs of true CAI, it looks very similar to yours.

The HP gain isn't phenomenal, but it feels better, makes you smile just hearing the hiss of all that air going in, the mass air sensor had no probs. For the Most part i'll have that intake for a year cause it won't do much good with all tht air going in and nowhere for it to go out in my stock exhaust pipe, and i won't be chopping off my ehaust till after my warranty goes out at the end of 2009. The most i'll do is an axle back as far as the exhaust goes.

After i replace headers on back i'll put me on a heavyduty " namebrand" intake system, but for right now i'm happy with the way it sounds and drives.

No i didn't make it myself, buddy of mine had it on his yaris hatch which he traded in a month after he installed the intake for a bmw, so he gave me the intake and i just grabbed a k& n to go onto the end of it, so 50 bucks isn't a bad buy in my opionion vs $200+.

Ps guys thanks for your input and criticism, its good to be able to get diff ideas and views on diff things we do to our cars. Great Forum

Found this quoted on a diff forum post as to how much truth there is to it idk

quote ""Re: cold air intake vs short ram air intake???
Downside to CAI-If you dont get a bypass valve, or your an idiot, you cold get hydrolock=new engine.

Both are easy to install, if you don't buy some major brand name they can be cheap, but at most, it might make your car sound a bit different with mybe three to four whp gains at most. AFE offers kits (I dunno if they have one for and RSX-S) that claim upwards of 20hp gains...

The difference? Most short ram intakes keep the intake in the engine bay. If you want to do this, I recomend not spending more than the cost of a K&N drop in, then cut the air box so that the K&N is exposed. A short ram, for the most part, is just an open element intake.

A cold air intake removes the filter from the engine bay (usually to near the bumper), so that it gets a better flow of cooler air from outside the engine bay. Cooler air is denser, so you can take in more air...

In reality, you won't notice any real difference with either unless you get some software along with it to deal with an increased air flow.

I'm interested in knowing how you fair when it comes to wet conditions. I know that after driving in a good rain, that area where your filter is sitting is quite wet in my LB.

Please keep us informed.

I shoulda taken pictures of where it sits, i would have to submerge my whole front end for water to reach where the filter sits, if i can get my car up on a lift i'll see if i can get a bottom view pic. and we'll play find the air filter LOl

ps. WeeYari Please show your design very interested to see what it looks like and its effectiveness, i'm always open for new ideas.
