My Yaris IS SLOW
Yaris Sedan Aero 2007
I've been cruising in my Yaris for awhile. I've noticed it feels like it moves really slow. Or is it because it is soo smooth i couldn't tell i'm going fast? I don't know much about cars, but it seems kinda slow. |

well, face it...
if you want more mpg, you have to lose some horsepower... slow is comparible... it depends on which car you are comparing... what did you drive before your yaris...? |

I should rephrase, the acceleration feels slow. But it does get to the 100-160's.
It is also very smooth when i get to the 100-120's. It's quiet. But acceleration feels slow. I really have to step on it, to make it fast |

Remember 100HP is sigificantly less than your average super-bike, and they are about a ton lighter. All kidding aside, the performance of the Yaris is about what you should expect in this class of car. It is however quieter than most, and if you are used to the racket made by some other small cars it may SEEM slow. Another thing .... this engine loves to rev. To get the most performance out of the car, you need to stay in the powerband.

You should have gotten the manual. It's pretty peppy if you get the shift points right.

Yup, the autobox saps the acceleration considerably, the gearing is much different since it's only a 4 spd vs the manual's 5 speed...

dude if ya wanna play around just slap it from the first three gears, you can still do that with an auto, its almost like driving a stick, get way more revs outa it, just more gas......

I find it to be pretty fast for a little car, maybe its me, but its plenty fast for me at this point in time, any faster and i'll be loosing my lisence for sure. Oh and i can tell this car would be awesome in an autocross, i was coming into a parking lot at Advance auto and it was a 90 degree left and then a really quick right into the parking stall and i zoomed right into that lot like it was my business, great small corner handling, LOVE IT SOO MUCH.

well if its slow you could always turbo it. But i remember someone saying something about the rods being really thin. so i guess low boost would still be ok. Auto cross in this thing would be great.
but imagine if you pull up to a vette and smoke it in drag. That would be funny. |

your yaris slow no way
i have the 1.0ltr t2 2005 yaris and i have beaten a 05 VW Golf GTI off the lights and kept pace with a subaru impreza for nearly 100yards and that with no mods at all you just have to use the gears right( i have the manual)

yeah baby!! yeah!!!(austin powers voice). if you have a manual it doesnt matter what kinda car you got it just depends on how you drive and if you double clutch correctly you get get some real good acceleration. I beat a 02 civic, (but burned my clutch in the process) but hey i beat em.

Sigh, i got Auto ... YYYYYYYYYYYYY O well nothing can be done now...
But when i accelerate and hit 3000rpm - 4000rpm to merge into traffic when i'm on the highway, my engine gets really loud... this is normal rite? It sounds like its gonna break, but when i hit 100km / hr its quiet again |

auto-sticking is really bad for the automatic transmission. The reason that the manuals can take that is because they are not using clutch packets and are using an actual clutch. The most important is the valve body. THe automatic one is not designed to hande the same stress as th manual valve body. this was discussed on www.cb7tuner.com/vbb a while back. not sure if it will still be there though. If you want to make the auto more peppy. I'd suggest getting a pts kit from Level 10. This will allow the auto trany to shift much better. Also this will strenthen the tranny a little bit. For more torque. You could always put in a new torque converter. Then i'd suggest getting a tranny intercooler made by B&M or by Hayden. This will keep your tanny temperatures low so that you can boost it with the scion xb turbo charger and not worry about frying the clutch packets. Beware though. Installing the tranny intercooler will require additional transmission fluid. either way good luck. you could always use N20 if you really want to. lol. |
