another guy on here has over 410,000 on his 2007 sedan. i think the alternator was the only thing to go out and it was at over 300,000 miles.

Wow, and I've got less than 15K on my 2008 Yaris, which I will have had for two years next month!

Granted, I also have a Jeep, a minivan and two motorcycles...

Still, that's encouraging to know that with regular maintenance, these cars can run for 200K+!

Cheers! M2

I think most will rust out before they wear out mechanically.

Some very impressive mileages on here! It's great to see these reaching 400K+ miles without any major work! I currently have 180K+ on mine.

Awesome, janeybug! I've always heard about cars lasting longer in warmer, drier climates where rust, salt, and the elements aren't so vicious - CA, AZ and so on. It's nice to know that here in St. Louis it's possible too - in spite of this disgusting weather we're having. :o)

That's awesome! 3 people from St. Louis on the forum now :)

I do have to agree with the rust sentiment ... that's certainly what killed my Jeep and I figure if I can can over 250,000 out of a TJ I can go even further with the Yaris, so I did the Ziebart thing and I try to keep the car with a good wax coating. Hope it works :)

Even if you spend $200/month on maintenance, its still cheaper than financing or leasing a new car... :)

The things you have to weigh though is piece of mind, convenience, and other superficial things.

An old car will always be cheaper even if you're continually dumping money into repairs. However, after a while it just becomes a pain in the ass. I like getting as many miles as I can out of a car (last one was 254,000 miles when I traded). After $1000 repairs every 4-6 months and never knowing if you might break down really weighs on you. Never mind that there's always things that break and you won't always fix if it isn't necessary to operate the car. My last car had blown speakers (all but one was out), and a number of other annoyances that wasn't worth fixing on a 13 year old car with 1/4 million miles on it.

On the other hand, a newer car has all the comforts intact and gives you the confidence that you won't need any major repairs for a long time and will always get to where you need to go. Plus its got all the newest technologies and conveniences that make life a little more enjoyable.

THAT is what you are paying for in a new car payment.

EXCELLENT....very good to know....my 08 Liftback has 13,000 miles on it. Toyota Service tells me, If you're not going to drive it we will!

It's not how many miles we have on our Yaris...It's how much happiness we get from our Yaris....
