LOL I read about this on Twitter but had no idea it was a Yaris.

I have a friend that had this very same thing happen. Turns out he couldn't afford the car so he decided the best course of action was to total it purposely. Such a shame. I barely see any Yaris on the road, let alone totalled / damaged.

At least it was only one of those ugly 3rd gen ones with the big fish mouth on the front. Come to think of it maybe that's why it headed into the water :-)

I remember a Toyota Hilux in the sea once in top gear.

Fresh water..maybe. If they can get everything dried out properly.

I think a Hilux can be melted down in a blast furnace and still run, they are practically indestructible. And of course unavailable in US.

I've seen that work in Spain after a car rental garage got flooded in several feet of water. However in Canada, where this particular incident took place, a flooded car is immediately written off by insurance.
