TGMO OW20 Oil Change

Recently - I just had my Yaris in for A/C service under warranty. They gave me a brochure for Toyota 0W20 oil changes - it's just at 7000KM - so another 1000 KM - and I will take it in for its first oil change to get all the swarf / debris out.

Is the Toyota 0W20 Synthetic ($53 CDN + 12% HST) worth it?

Or should I opt for the regular oil change?

I'm not a DIYer by any means.

Did they specifically ok it for your Yaris?
I think they allow doubling the normal drain interval here in the states for vehicles approved for the 0W-20. The price you quoted sounds like a good deal if you don't want to do it yourself.

I'd go with the Toyota 0W-20 over their regular oil.

Any possible way you could post or quote the content of the brochure?

Wow. Good to know as i am making the switch from rp 5w30 to tgmo 0w20.

Been hearing nothing but great things about toyos 0w20. Perfect for the tight nz engine.

I just had my 1st ever oil 0W 20 change on my 2010 Yaris last Saturday, July 31, 10 - paid about $60 CDN - and so far I can't say that I've noticed anything in terms of performance.

I was promised better mileage - which I've commented on in a diff thread - but based on doing the 1st oil change alone - and not because using 0W 20.

Oil isn't something that I look for performance in, it is the long term protection and economical advantages of certain oils.

0w20 seems to me to be a perfect oil for the yaris.

Go to walmart, get a 5 quart jug of "Mobil 1 0w-20 advanced fuel economy" for $21, its fully synthetic. Follow the pictures on this DIY: http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/sho...&highlight=oil.

Changing the oil is the easiest thing you can do to a car, you just twist open the oil pan screw and let the oil leak out, put ~3.3 quarts of oil in, replace oil filter, and voila you're done. Good for 15k miles or 1 year, and use the extra $40 to buy steak.

I dunno know what 2 say - Toyota definitely hound u 2 use their services - I just got a 0w20 fridge magnet in the mail - complete with a tri fold folder - with a customized maintenance interval schedule for my Yaris - I can hardly blame Toyota - their sales were apparently down 7%

i can still get a 5q jug of mobil1 from walmart for 20 bux...and yes it comes in 0-20 cuz that's what i just put in there 2 weeks ago.

my total cost oil change was about 25 bux. so sure...you keep your $55 oil and filter and then still pay someone to put it in...

and by the way, a sale is only about 60% of the profit in a decent dealership. maintenance and services the rest.

I use Motul 8100 on mine , $75 for 4litres. nice and clean.

Since when has Toyota been calling for 0-20 in our Yaris? I always thought using 5-30 is what our cars called for.

there was a T.S.B. giving the 5w-20 an okay . Not the 0w-20 . I would check with a few head techs from TOYO service departments to get approval for 0w-20 . Then get it in writing in person , by e-mail or fax stating that it won't void the warranty with that head techs signature . We did so by e-mail for the 5w-20 from the servive center where we bought the YARIS sedan . We then printed it out for our records . Better to be safe than sorry .

Yeah Hershey, I knew their was an ok for the 5-20. Is the 0-20 given an ok for Yarii's in Canada due to the climate/latitude change?

That I don't know . Call some TOYO service centers to see if there's an T.S.B. giving approval of the 0w-20 . Many TOYO head techs here in our area weren't aware of the 5w-20 T.S.B. . Most said not to use 5w-20 and stay with the 5w-30 stated in the owners manual and on the oil cap . Push them to look up the possible 0w-20 T.S.B. in their system . May not like it , but so be it . Let us know if you get approval of the 0w-20 . If given a go , get it in writing and signed . GOOD LUCK

Um - I should point out that my Toyota Dealership - Valley Toyota in Chilliwack BC Canada - ISN'T pushing the 0W-20 oil change - and they AREN'T DEFINITELY STATING IT'S NECESSARY FOR ANY SPECIFIC VEHICLE - they are just advertising it as an oil change option - and there is no specific advertising copy claiming it is better than the standard fossil fuel oil change - based on what I've discovered (in asking my neighbors who use the same dealership) - they are offering the standard fossil fuel oil change as default

I only got the 0W-20 oil change as I'm adding 250 KMs a day - 6 days a week to my baby Yaris 2010 - only time will tell if I will get it again.

QUICK UPDATE ON MY 2010 YARIS HB - 5 DR - BOUGHT IN JUNE 5, 2010

So far - after the initial OW-20 oil change - the Yaris has ran perfect!

It's 23,000 KM's old - and only 4 months old - and I'm taking it in tomorrow for its 2nd OW-20 Oil Change - and a tire rotation.

Based on 1 OW-20 oil change so far - I'd say it's WORTH THE EXTRA $$$ TO GET OW-20 OIL CHANGE - my gas mileage has increased. I get about 5L/100KMS.

Mine did really well too when I used 0w-20. I just lost my amsoil provider so I now get Royal purple 5w-20 as it is easier to find.
