Tech Help!!! for company Scion xb

I have a xb that belongs to my company. The dumb driver blew the engine. The #4 rod had knocked a hole in the oil pan and both sides of the block.
Anyway,
Put in a used engine and the starter wont engage correctly.
There is a dent in the starter where a chunk of the block hit it.
There also was metal shavings in the bellhousing and starter.
I cleaned out the starter and the bellhousing (took the starter apart)
I thought everything was good but.... I NEED HELP.
Could someone with a automatic and mechanical know-how remove the plastic inspection cover that covers the flexplate and tell me or take a photo of the flexplate teeth. I need to know if you can see the welds on the flexplate to the teeth or if there is a 1/4 inch lip on the teeth to the flexplate. If so I put the darn flexplate on backwards . If not I have a bad starter.
I also posted on the xb board but the yaris has the same engine, And I have been here b4.

i would say that with the DENT in the side of the starter, that it might be dead... but on the starter ring gear, can you see the witness marks from the starter? if so, do they line up with the starter when you turn the flex plate? if not, your vehicle may very well have the flex plate on backwards...

YES, But as I thought I got more responses here

The flexplate was on backwards.

There is a ring hump around the plate and that ring faces inside.
So raised portion to the inside(engine) and dip to the trans (converter) side.

Swaped it out today 3 hrs to pull engine, turn plate around and get the engine back in. I have to hook everything back up but I should be done tommorow.
