Lights don't turn on when I open the hatch

After doing a bunch of maintenance / fiddling with my car, the dome light will not turn on when I open the hatch door. But the red door LED on the dashboard does come on, so that tells me the door sensor is working properly. The dome light does come on correctly when I open the other 2 doors. So I don't know what else could be the problem.
I did replace the dome light with a cheap LED from eBay. I couldn't be happier with the light output of this thing, but could that somehow cause this problem?

The hatch does not make the dome light up. It only illuminates the little light on the side of the hatch.

It just occurred to me that maybe this behavior is normal? The luggage compartment room light does come on when the hatch is opened. I just thought I remembered the main overhead room light also coming on. Can anyone check this?

Aha, you beat me to the post. In that case, is there anyway to change this, so both lights come on together?

In theory jumping the blue wire in 4A pin 7 to the pink wire in 4K pin 2 should do the trick.

Sounds easy enough. I'll give that a try, thanks. Are you sure this won't short anything out?
Just so I understand what's happening, I'm looking in the EWD manual, and it says 4K pin 2 controls the light, so whenever that pin connects to ground, the light turns on?
And I guess 4A pin 7 is somehow connected to the hatch sensor, but I don't understand what BCTY means.

To turn on the dome light you ground the pink wire and the same for the hatch with the brown wire. The BCTY is the "back door courtesy light" input to the Body ECU that tells it that the hatch is open, so it can tell the cluster ECU to turn on the open door idiot light.

I just tried it and it works like a charm. Open the hath and the hatch and dome lights come on, open a door and the dome and hatch lights come on. Close them and all lights go off.

Yep it works, excellent!
Interestingly, the hatch causes the light to turn on/off instantly, while the front doors cause it to do a 1 second fade on and off.
