Question Yaris Odometer

Hi,

I am currently looking around for a new car.
The Toyota Yaris is one of the cars that I am looking at.

I know Toyota's are great with regards to fuel consumption and reliability.

The only thing that annoys me is that the Odometer is in the centre.
I currently drive a Peugeot 106, where the dashboard is in the middle.

The question is:
Why do Toyota put the Odometer in the middle?

Thanks

So they can use the same dash in RHD or LHD countries.

You get used to it. When driving other cars I end up looking in the wrong place.

Probably because it is cheaper to change the steering wheel over to one side than design a new dash for different countries. Just my guess.

I love mine being in the center, I don't have to move my hand from the top of the wheel to check my speed. It really is easy to get used to. It's one of the things that attracted me to the car in the first place.

The only time it bothered/shocked me was the first time I put on the left turn signal and saw the flash to my right. Since then, all is good.
In fact, now I rather like having an un-interupted view straight out the front of the vehicle.

Because in most cars most drivers cannot see the instruments behind the steering wheel. It takes a little getting used to, but it is a much better place and it gives the opportunity to put an extra glovebox behind the steering wheel, which I love!

I think most people who dislike haven't given it a chance. It is really a much better solution!

Cheers! M2

I like it better there, because now I have 3 glove boxes... lol

It really isn't that big of a deal, like MadMax said, most people who don't like it haven't used it. It's just a speedometer anyways - with the way people drive sometimes it amazes me that they even bother to look at it and complain about where it is... or have time to while texting, talking on the phone, eating, drinking, playing with an iPod, etc.

I thought it was odd the first time I sat inside the car, but after a while I got used to it, and I really like it, especially since I get to see everything, unlike before when sometimes the wheel would block the view. But also, I'm a very paranoid person that keeps staring at the console all the time to make sure I'm not speeding/have fuel/no warning lights are on.
