I just got a call back from the dealership. My pipe is in and it gets installed Friday morning. Took 9 days for it to arrive. I'll post anything I hear from them regarding the subject.

Got mine replaced. Nothing noticable, and I haven't smelled that god awful stench since. Eww.

Went to the Dealer today, i told the service manager i have the part number if that's gonna help him to find it out the problem faster....reply "we need our guys take a look first, different cars might have different problem." okay...fine. My friend who happened to be a tech working @ this dealership tonight (i've no idea before i went), mentioned the TSB...he went back and checked their computer.....yeah, the TSB is applicable in Canada too. the part costs about $860 CAD...no wonder the manager didnt want to listen at first place. Guys....Go nuts with this TSB!

Read your warranty rights guide and find a spot in writing that says they have to honor the TSB. I'm sure its in there.

obviously they probably corrected this problem by installing the new part at the factory for the current production run. Question is, when did they start installing the new part at the factory? I purchased my Yaris 3 weeks ago, and I am wondering if new part has already been installed.

if you have read the TSB, you'll find TOYOTA still uses the old part in production....They'll replace the part ONLY if u complain.

And for that reason, GO COMPLAIN! The TSB even says the replacement piece has a higher-flow cat. It adds .3 HP!

Cool. Now I know there's a fix for that particular problem and it wasn't my imagination. I wonder if the problem is isolated to us manual equipped enthusiast with lead foot.

what will the effect of the new part be on gas mileage? If it is negative, might not be worth complaining about.

Well the smell is back again, it usually comes during start up thru the A/C vents and last for a minute or so. I will contact the dealer and see what happens. Any one else with a recurring problem?

ive been experiencing a very strong "odor" that occasionally creeps up when changing the ac from hot/warm to cold/cool. In the morning its cold so i turn up the heat, and in the afternoon it gets hot, so i turn up the ac to cold. i figured that was what was causing the weird smell. kinda like coolant. once in a while a distinct sour smell but only sometimes, and this happens when starting the car up during warm weather with the ac on (cold).

I've had this problem since I got my LB back at the end of August. Some mornings when I startup and when I get on the highway, it gets really bad.

How long does it take them to change the part?
