Roof weight limitations
Seriously considering a roof top tent for my 2008 HB. Fibreglass tent weight is 110 lbs plus rack weight, and plus me at night.
Has anyone installed a RTT? |

That would be very cool. I have stood on the roof of a Yaris (don't ask) and there is plenty of support for your tent and you provided it is mounted correctly. Anyplace within the black strips is a no-go for supporting weight, as the center of the roof is a very thin piece of sheet metal, supported just by the edges and three cross braces. As long as you mount the frame to the area outside of the black strips, it can support an incredible amount of weight.
Here is what the underside of the roof looks like: Yaris - Roof.jpg And, this is a cross section of the areas outside of the black rubber trim strips showing how much stronger that area is: Yaris Roof Structure.jpg
