Unknown PIN

Hi everyone. I had a problem with my 2007 Yaris sedan's trunk. It won't open with a key or the thing u push up to open by the driver side. Thanks to some of your inputs here, I managed to open it through the boot. As I was doing it though, the attached pin came out of the lock system. Everything works now, opening with key, closing. Sensor on the dash. Everything. But I'm curious to know what and where this pin Is supposed to be?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, that definitely looks like a foreign object that somehow got in there.

It looks like the ball end of a cable. Does the sedan have an in car trunk release? Does it work?

Perhaps it was a leftover from a previous repair.

Ok. Maybe. I must add also that the fuel door release doesn't work either and the end of the release that goes there to is hanging in the trunk. However it doesn't have one of these pins at the end of it. I don't know if I am making sense. I will post pictures of it very soon

Take a picture of your object beside a ruler or a coin so we can appreciate its size. To me it looks very tiny, like you say, a pin. To others it is appearing large enough to be a piece of linkage cable.

Looks like what used to be called a "hat pin".
It appears to be bent, no longer straight.
My bet it was a primitive attempt to move the tumblers.

That's what it is. It used to be part of the cable for the fuel door release. How it ended up where it did I don't know.
