DIY Headrest Mount #2 (Second first, easier than the first)

I made an improved headrest mount (first version shown here) for my girlfriend's Civic. Replaced the U-Bolts with 5/16" x 3" J-Hooks and used a bolt with an eyelet on it for the camera mounting bolt (easier to manipulate).

I also made a vintagey catalog sheet for it. "Improved" version has only 3 wingnuts to fiddle with instead of 5, and cost about $3.24 to make (as opposed to $1.93 for the original).

Dec 5, 2010 Update:
A few more tweaks and I've posted the assembly! Calling it "The Ugly Stick". http://www.etsy.com/listing/63699062...r-camera-mount

I keep playing with the design - now it's adjustable and metal and really pretty damn nice looking if I do say so myself. Better still, this cost exactly as much to make as my PVC versions thanks to a local electronics store. I took apart and rebuilt a leg of a camera tripod to make this one - I can make two more with the spare parts, plus I have a tripod swivel head assemby! Works like a champ and has some features the previous two didn't, like plastic-capped ends to keep it from tearing out your eyes, a rubberized thumbscrew (encased it with heatshrink tubing; worked perfectly), and angled mount to counter the seat's pitch when leaned all the way forward to "look" out the windshield.

Presenting: "The Car Bar" (Headrest camera mount, rev. 3):

...and then a fourth version popped up using the parts left over. Turns out also to be the most versatile (tripod tilt head is intact, complete with camera platform and quick release, and mounts using only two thumbscrews instead of 5!)
