Maybe just an upgrade to a 1NZ manifold and throttle body might be all the upgrade you need. It would make sense that the 2NZ TB is smaller than the 1NZ.

That's an excellent suggestion.
An issue would be converting from cable to drive by wire. If I had a cable, I'd stick with it. The throttle response is so much better than electronic controls. Greg |

Sounds good, still trying to source a 1NZ intake manifold. How far off is a 2ZZ intake manifold in terms on bolting up to our NZ engines?

The TB on my 1st gen Sienna was a 4-bolt cable style. I think I've seen some in the junkyard before. No idea if they're the same bolt pattern, and I'm sure they're HUGE compared to the one he already has.

Crap. Now that we've completely derailed the thread, perhaps we can figure out if a 1NZ intake manifold would work?

I'm sure it will, I just need to find one first.
How far off are the inlet ports between an 2zz manifold & a NZ engine, Do you think an adapter would make sense?

A 2ZZ manifold will not fit a 1NZ or 2NZ. It's ports for one are probably close to twice the size and is designed for an engine with an 8000+ RPM redline.

What do you consider cheap? You do realize that you are saying this in a Yaris community so in my book cheap is very relative....seems like expensive here is cheap elsewhere

A new one is $100 on ebay so $50 for a used one seems reasonable

I finally got around to doing the swap (3 bolt cable TB) yesterday, here is what I discovered;
The 1ZZ TB Requires longer bolts A special 'gasket' had to be made The Throttle Cable is it's stock position is too short The car idles EXTREMELY high, minimum of 2000 RPM > http://youtu.be/XTNK8QxzM08 I'm still troubleshooting, hopefully I'll get it sorted out.

You'll need to back the idle adjuster screw off a bit. It's set to idle a 1.8L.
