Transmission issues!

So i own a 2007 Toyota yaris 4door hatchback. It is the automatic 1.5L. It has been a very good car to me especially in winter. But this morning i was doing alot of driving in the new snow running around town. All of the sudden when i start my car after it being parked for a couple hours i shift into reverse and the transmission started to rattle and make a shitty noise. The noise only happens in reverse and no other gears. I do let the car warm up and i do monitor my fluid levels often. I am praying that there is ice or snow jammed up in the car as i have been dragging on the snow around town. Anybody know whats going on i have a feeling I am losing reverse.

Since it only makes the noise in reverse, it is likely the shift cable rattling against the exhaust heat shield.

To be sure you would have to jack it up and take a look underneath.

There are several threads on here discussing this rattle. They are quite old since the issue has not been raised in quite some time. Not sure of the best search terms to find them.

Here's one of them http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/sho...mission+rattle

That is the cable. As I mentioned in your cross post, the exhaust shield could also be to blame.

When my car idles the rattle begins and it matches the idle. You definetly do not think its the transmission though?

Check for free play in your various heat shields. Your car is old enough that the mounting points are probably corroded badly. Lost my first one last year.

Our '08 sedan has done this since day 1 . Seems worse with the frigid temps . Must have the shivers , shaking off the cold .

No. If the tranny was making the noise you would have far worse issues with it.
