Battery flickering on 2007

Hi folks,

Before I am asked to search the forum, I have.

My battery is flickering and when I'm driving for long distances, it will turn off, but eventually turns back on. When it flickers, I notice my headlights and the cabin lights will respectively change their intensities. I.e.: when the battery light is off, the headlights are on full and the steering wheel is fluid and not stiff (power steering).

Here's what I have done so far:
1) Opened the voltage regulator off the alternator and cleaned all contacts.
2) Checked the ALT-S fuse in the fuse box and it seems fine to me
3) Voltage of car battery via terminals when the car is off: 12.13V-12.48V
4) Voltage of between alternator and negative car termminal when off: 12.13V-12.48V
5) #3 while the car is running: 13.83-13.87V
6) #4 while the car is running: 13.93-13.95V

Any help would be much appreciated!

Thank you

It sounds to me like the voltage regulator is still causing you grief. Have you taken note if the instances of battery light flickering coincide with wet or foggy days?

Hi WeeYari,

Thanks for responding. It doesn't seem to correlate with weather conditions.

I just came back from the mechanic as I needed my front donut gasket replaced. As soon as it was replaced, the battery light no longer lit up. The mechanic did not disconnect the battery before welding so I am not sure why, but I am quite pleased nonetheless. The lights no longer dim on me.

Would anyone know why replacing the front muffler gasket would somehow alleviate the flickering battery? Could it have been the rough vibration that "might have" interfered with the serpentine belt in any way?

Weird!

Probably a slipping serpentine belt (by the alternator) or a loose alternator connection caused by the vibration, all based on what ive read on your post.

12.13V is a very weak battery. If the battery is still the OE, I'd look into a replacement before winter.

I would agree with belt slipping. especially since it comes on during "long drives" where the belt has time to heat up good and expands.
battery light only comes on for charging issue. it does not come on for weak battery. (but bluevitz is right, battery does need replacement based on your numbers)

2007 , and only 2007 , can be explained by the fact that "early
releases 2007 "had different regulator that had values making numbers
exceed values tolerated by ECU , car will still run , I am at 200,000
km with flickering alternator light that started around 10,000 km.

don't look for anything else in early models 2007.
