My car didn't come with a Cabin Air Filter. I didn't realize it until I was at 10,000 miles and I went to change it. It only cost $12 and the delear wanted to charge $40. It is really easy to do yourself!!

However most do find a cabin filter very worthwhile.

If your air is so clean perhaps you are also wasting money on engine air filters and they are a scam?
Not saying the air is clean but that air filter isnt doing anything to make the air in the car cleaner if i'm driving with widows open.

In my time lurking these forums it seems nobody got an air filter with their Yaris. I had assumed I was among the masses without one.

Last night I checked, after purchasing one off eBay, and lo and behold I have a filter! It wasn't as dirty as I'd have expected either, especially after over 2 years of use.

There is the possibility it was installed when I had my 32000km maintenance done in the spring. I will check my receipts, but the total bill was reasonable and less than I expected and I'm pretty sure a cabin filter wasn't among the charges. It was around $150 which included an oil change, winter->summer wheel/tire changeover, brake cleaning, and a few other things.

At the very least, it can prevent anything from falling into the fan and/or getting clogged in your ducts.
You can get one for as little as $12US. It's cheap insurance.

Anyway, I would wager that there are some times when you do roll the windows up. Let's be honest here.

This is the only reason I put a filter in mine.

Mine did not have one when new, but I talked the dealer into giving me one.

After seeing how dirty it gets in just 10K miles, I'm sold on how nice they work. I get 'em at pepboys for $12.

yeah... it didn't come with one with I bought it new. Bought one for $12 at Advance Auto Parts, just over a year later I changed it.... it was starting to get pretty dirty.

So does anyone know why we were ripped off over a $12 filter?

I made 4 for under 10 dollars. I don't really feel ripped off, I notice no difference with a filter in. Maybe they wanted the A/C to feel that 5% stronger in test drives.

Somewhere along the line a Toyota accountant said, "hey we can save X ammount of Yen per year if we no longer include the cabin filter in places like Noth America".

That is the polite answer.

I just bought my car a week ago, it has no cabin filter or no filter above the blower fan I had no idea until recently. I'm going to play around with an old furnace filter and see what I can create to replace filters the car did not come with.
