Headlight bulb replacement

I was thinking to replace the head light bulbs (hi and low beams), and noticed that the OEM bulbs come with rubber sleve that covers the back if the headlights against dirt and dust. Those rubber things are one piece with the bulbs - not way to seprated the bulbs from those sleeves.

Question if I want to use the aftermarket bulbs - how do I deal with those rubber things - installing new bulbs without them does not seem to be a good option.

Thanks

No need to wear a rubber when installing a light bulb....sorry I couldn't resist. However I looked at the on line service manual link provided multiple times on this forum and it did not deal with the situation of aftermarket bulbs with out a rubber. I guess if the time comes for me to replace one, I'll just go to the dealer and get an OEM one that is an exact replacement. I may need to choose a color though....

The rubber seals are quite necessary. They should pull off the old bulbs without issue. If they do not you are running too hot of bulbs, and should get a replacement set of rubber seals before installing your new bulbs.

The rubber seals ARE NOT attached to the halogen bulb...just reuse them

And, FWIW, I ran the depot headlights with the rubber grommets OFF for a couple years without issue

Does take some pulling on both sides of the boot . Wiggle it out . The center hole slides over the base of the bulb . Make sure it's on tight to keep moisture out . I use the Philips Crystal Vision Ultra ( http://www.usa.philips.com/c/car-lam...03cvs2/prd/en/ ) for the sedan . Good white light to help spot them deer and other critters . Good luck .

there is a little tab on the rubber gromet that you should use to pull the rubber out.

unplug the electrical first.

I have used various new and improved bulbs in recent years on other vehicles...you know, the ones with wider and longer range with your safety in mind. However, the trade off was always the fact that they never lasted close to as long as the original oem bulbs....not even close. So...you better get the rubber change out down pat as you may very well be doing a bulb change again sooner than you think...just my experince with these super bulbs...

CARQUEST has the PHILIPS X-treme Vision headlight bulbs for $29.99 ( $49.99 - $20 ) . This is with a $20 mail-in-rebate from CARQUEST . The rebate ends 11/30 and needs to be in the mail by December 30th .

Picked up the X-treme Vision at CARQUEST and installed them in the parking lot . They do produce more light off to the sides like that of fog lights and further down the road than the Crystal Vision Ultra bulbs . The bulbs inside the package are the Crystal Vision Ultra that were in the sedan . The rebate form from CARQUEST is available at the store . Plan to send it in soon and get back on how long it takes to get refund or if any problems . Got the Crystal Vision Ultras from CARQUEST and that rebate went w/o a hitch and fairly quick .

35 feet from the driveway to the shed . These go quite a ways down the road and off to the sides . Helped me spot a deer and few other critters off to the side with ease . They help to distinguish .

Took this last night . There's much more lighting than the picture presents . The camera isn't that great .
