Waxing and plolishing ~
Ok.....I recently decided I "don't" want to paint protect my Yaris and would like to find out a bit about Waxing ~
I hear some people talking about clay bar.....what is it and how does it work? I'm loacated in Brisbane, Australia ~ What brand should I use and buy at the Auto Shops? What do I need to wax the car.....? (Material to use? Other extras?) Where should I wax the car......garage? outside? How long does it take for the Yaris? Thanks ~ Jaspie ~ |

For the car's exterior, I do the 3-step process: wash, polish and wax. I usually do these every 3-4 weeks. In between, I just wash and buff. As for a clay bar, use it on a case to case basis. To determine if you need to clay your car, run your hand over the car's surfaces after cleaning your car. If its smooth, you don't need it yet. If it's rough, you probably need to do it. Do it as part of the 'polish' process.
In my opinion, a new car like yours doesn't need to be clayed yet as its finish is still silky smooth. I haven't clayed our Yaris yet and we've had ours since Nov05. But it all depends on the environment you're in, so there. Anyway, I mostly use Meguiar's products. Go to their forums. There's a lot of great information there especially for novice detailers. ...oh, and do everything under a shade (ie. carport, garage, etc). |

Hasher22....
I used it on my 98 Intripid (black) on August and it looked better after I used it than the day I bought it. It did take out or reduced the minor scratches. I used it on a very small boat (for a friend) and the same results. I bought it for a Cessna-Skyhawk 172R and it just made it look glossy but it didn't really hide/remove scratchs. I'll say it's damn $$ and I still have about 3/4 of a bottle left and was going to wax the Yaris with it this spring. Let ya know what happens... |

You can get the same thing with $8 NuCar paint treatment...I use it and it lasts 20+ washes; the water beads great. You are getting ripped at the dealer....don't fall for their lies.

I do a 4 step process, Wash, Seal, Glaze, Wax.
I use maguires wash, then mothers sealer liquid wax(2nd step wax), then mothers carnuba glaze/buffing wax(3rd step wax), then maguires liquid glass finishing wax for the shine. with all those coats I ussually only have to wax once every 3 months, but on that 3rd month my arms are really tired, lol.
