My First Year with my 'S'

It was just over a year ago I test drove my Yaris 'S' Sedan which now has 28,000 miles on it. I remember as I drove it and was checking all the goodies out and asking the sales person, "And it only costs $15,000? Seriously?". Within a few blocks I knew I was buying it. Simply put, I love this car. I traded in a PT Cruiser that got, maybe, 26mpg on the hiway at best.

I have laid the back seats down and cramped enough camping/paddling gear for a week of vacation. Not only did this thing carry as much stuff as my old Jeep Cherokee but it made the 2,000 mile round trip for only $150 ($3 a gallon).

I took a job a few months ago for a home health agency and have been piling on the miles at a rate of 700-1000 miles a week. The car has just gotten better. I drive a mixture of city and hiway for work of maybe 30/70. The weird thing is that right around 23,000 miles my mileage suddenly went up about 3-5mpg. Like as if it hit some type of break in point. I now average 37-39mpg for an automatic.

It's nice knowing I have little to worry about as the miles keep adding up. My only complaint about the car is maybe body integrity. I'm starting to collect dimples in the body from every little rock, shopping cart and whatever.
I do wish there were all the goodies available for the Sedan also but I am hoping to do a CAI, rims, custom cat back exhaust, struts in front, sway bar in back and pulleys.

All in all I think this is my favorite car I have ever owned and will definitely get another one (maybe a LB) when and if this one passes on.

Yep, around 20,000 miles seems to be the time when the engine start to return the best mileage and become more responsive doing it. My old 1.6L Honda did the same thing.

Some other factor that will effect mileage, is long drives vs frequent cold start-ups and winter gas vs summer gas.
