What to do with that tiny pocket?

Ok, so I have this Scosche dash kit:

The pocket is tiny and useless compared to those on the Metra or American International kits.

Anyone have any ideas what you can actually do with such a tiny pocket?

See the small picture on the right in my post above? You can kind of see the depth of the pocket. It's very short.

If you are thinking of putting in some electronics there, just cut the back off of the pocket.

I guess I could try making a tiny little drawer for it to store a micro-fiber cloth and some retractable aux and iPod cables. I'd just need to find a place that does ABS molding.

I don't even see why they bothered making that pocket if it's that small.

I wish I had the skills, tools and materials to make a nice custom dash kit. That's why I mentioned finding a place that could do it.

Do you have a picture of that setup that's not in the dark?

Wow. Looks nice. Not into the CF look myself, but that's something I'd take.

You traded in that nice SoundStream for that Clarion?

After trying every dash kit I could find for the Yaris, this Schosche is the only one that looks decent with my JVC AVX77. Anyone know a place in Las Vegas that could make me a nice looking, custom faceplate or that could do something with the tiny pocket?

Do the edges of your plastic faceplate extend beyond the edges of your head unit trim pieces?

I've tried doing that before, but the head unit trim piece keeps pushing on the plastic / ABS faceplate because it goes farther back than the front of the dash kit.

That's where I keep the little calculator I use to figure my gas mileage. I figured is was really for CDs, but I don't use them. A USB stick is much more convenient.

I've been looking around for the past couple of days and I've realized something else.

These dash kit companies (Metra, Scosche, American International) all make much nicer dash kits for the other econo-cars.

Their Hyundai Accent, Honda Fit and even Chevy Aveo kits look like they put more time into developing them than their kits for the Yaris.

WTF is up with that?

Another thing I've noticed is that we have all these people here that make custom fab'ed stuff for the Yaris, but no one has ever made a nice custom dash kit.

Okay Okay! What do you want to see from a custom dash kit?

I'm taking the integrated factory radio:

...and modding the dash for a Pioneer Carrozzeria P-01 source. The dash will be as seamless as humanly possible. All the holes where the factory deck comes through will be sealed. The silver color will be changed to black or a carbon fiber wrap. Watch for the atmospheric controls' knob color to boe changed. Look for that at the end of April.
