Headroom?

Hey everyone, I have a question about the use of an amp and amount of headroom possible to run. I have Alpine SPX-177R with 75W RMS and am having a hell of a time finding an amp that will suit them. I'm looking at the mid-upper class amps (ARC, Zapco, JL, Eclipse are a few I have looked at), and can only seem to find them in 100W x 2. I know headroom is usually desired, but this much? If anyone can help me out, it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

You should be fine with 100W on a set of 75W components. It's just a matter of turning them down if they sound like they're being overpowered.

If you were looking for a sub as well, you could get a 4 channel amp that would end up around 75x4 for all 4 speakers.

Boston Acoustics GT-22? The type X's handle power fairly well from what I've seen so don't worry too much about a 100W amp. I've put a JL 300/2, alpine PDX 4.150, and a Boston GT-24 to these speakers with no problems. You just have to watch how far you turn the dial. Actually more power is still better so that you aren't stressing your amplifier too much. (distortion)
So that what I said makes sense... I work in an electronics store and I like to play around in our car audio booth. If you have some money itchin to be spent, consider the Alpine PDX2.150. Very versatile as far as mounting is concerned, and considering that type-x components have a 300W max rating, you don't have to worry much about blowing them, just use your head. (and ears)

Ok, cool. So I'm thinking of getting the JL 300/2 for the Type X's and then a JL 500/1 for the sub (most likely a JL 10W7). I'll keep the gain set low, cause really what I am after is sound quality. Sound like a good idea? Thanks!
