Parts?

Did you ended up using #99-8216 for the Dash kit and #70-1761 for the harness?

Yes to the dash kit.

For the harness I went to Circuit City and got the Metra 'Smart Harness" #80-1761 and the one specific to the JVC deck. That way I didn't have to do any soldering. It did cost more though.

The #70-1761 requires you to solder all the wires to the other half of the harness that comes with the new head unit.

The Smart Harness #80-1761 terminates in a universal adapter that snaps into an adapter on the other end of the harness metra makes specifically for each manufacturer. It does cost more but saves an hour or so of soldering.

Wow! Great write-up sir!

I have to admit the installation is VERY easy into the Yaris!! It take around one hour to replace my deck into my Cavalier with my friend who own a professionnal audio shop. We have to remove THE ENTIRE DASH to remove the deck! I'm not kidding, see a proof above! It's not my car, I found this pictures into a write-up on the web! LOL

Wow thats a great tutorial.... but my dash looks totally different than yours.... if you look at the picture, the panel only leaves a slit open for the cd to go in, and it extends to cover the vents. Theres no hole like yours! So how would I install mine? And what about the aux port that I use for my ipod?

Does anyone know any other Metra Product numbers that would fit a Hatchback w/ COnvience Package? Im having trouble finding #99-8216 in my local area.

Is there a Large Chain that may carry this? Will #99-8101 or #99-8202 work for what I need? (Single DIN Unit)

If you can wait a couple of weeks, I can let you have mine super cheap. I'm making some changes and need to go to a double DIN set up.

sure you could, but it will be super quiet, and may damage your i-pod :)

but if you really really wanted to, you could run the ipod to an amplifier, and then run the amplifier to the speakers ;)

great DYI!

Using the appropiate metra kit, and the right harness for your stereo, you can even say it's plug-n-play

The only way I see you can do it...is to get a trim that looks like this one
http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2478

This will replace your stock, leaving space for an aftermarket one..

BTW mine is a sedan
