Yaris transponder key: do we ALL get one??

I'm scanning Ebay for key blanks for Yari, and they ALL seem to be "transponder" keys?
I don't have an alarm, ignition kill or keyless entry on my base '08 LB. I DO have the power package though.
My Dads's '03 Tacoma's key was $15 at the dealer. That's for a bare bones crank windows/bench seat truck.
So, on USDM Yaris cars, what's the way to tell if you have a transponder key, or just a plain old KEY!

My '08 LB like yours has just a plain key but you may need to just go to the dealer to get extra keys made.

Nah, you can just go to a hardware store. I made a copy of my key for $1.49.

I tried a variety of hardware stores (Lowe's, Home Depot) and even WalMart and could not find a flat blank key for my Yaris (I keep one in my wallet for emergencies). I ended up going to a Toyota dealership and spending $12 to have one cut. It was highway robbery, but I have always kept a spare key in my wallet.

Cheers! M2

i'll tell you..

for the yaris, you need an ILCO TR47-P key... available at any homedepot and walmart.

if the dealer just cut a blank key and handed to you, then you don't have a transponder key.. but for 12$ you get a toyota key.. hehe.

WalMart has blanks for Yaris keys, they're just not in the lookup table. Have to test-fit it in the rolling cartridge-tester that a lot of the rank-and-file key-machine operators never get shown how to use and think is off-limits or some kind of adjustment tool they don't need to touch. It's just a bunch of plastic slots in all the various blank-shapes to let them slip keys in until they find the one it fits in and bottoms out on, grab that blank printed on the panel, done.

I thought if you bought the power package you got the keyless entry?
Did the 08 change, my 07 has keyless entry.
IllusionX is correct on TR-47 for the blank.
I had one made for 2.50 at the local hardware store for a spare.
I also bought a uncut camry keyless and put the guts of a used Scion key and re-programmed it for my second keyless entry since it only came with one.
That cost about 25.00.

Keyless is not standard with the power package. It's just another option they add on to rip you off.
