Unhappy Radiator fan doesn't shut off ever

I have a a 2007 5dr hatchback and the radiator fan is always on no matter what. It is extremely loud once I am on the highway. Sounds like a prop driven airplane. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Is this something new, or has it always been that way during your ownership? And, if it has done it from day one, are you the second+ owner?

The reason I ask that is that some people have overridden the engine control of the radiator fan it make it run constantly for performance applications.

If that is not the case, I would suspect that the FAN NO.1 Relay is stuck on. It is part of the integration relay assembly in the under hood fuse panel. It is the rectangular block with the fuses embedded into it. Try giving that area a couple of good (but not hard enough to break the plastic) raps with the handle of a screwdriver.

Holy cow it worked! Thank you. The car is still very noisy compared to my Chrysler 200. It kind of vibrates but I think that is just the way it has always been. I bought it new and have put 297000 kms on it. Have done all my own work except the water pump that went while on a camping trip. Only other stuff was my brakes twice and the 192000 km tune up, Flush transmission every 50,000 kms. Love this car.

That will likely happen again, as once a relay's contacts stick they become prone to doing so again. It runs over $130 from the dealer, but if you are interested, I have a used one from a wrecked Yaris that I am currently parting out that I could sell for $60 shipped.
